Roman and Patton walked into town, their arms linked together, chatting about random things and getting to know each other. Roman found out that Patton's the oldest of 5 and looked after them most of the time while his parents were at work, his oldest younger sister taking over the role now that he is here. And Patton found out that Roman's love for theatre came from when his aunt took him and his cousin to a Broadway show for the first time to see 'Mamma Mia'. Roman fell in love with being in a theatre, the size, the smells, the lights, everything. His aunt would take him and his cousin to a musical or play at least twice a year and Roman's love and dream to be on Broadway only grew. This year, they planned on seeing Chicago and Hadestown.
Patton smiled at the way Roman's eyes lit up as he spoke of performing on stage, as Roman adored the way Patton bounced up and down and talking at supersonic speeds about his family.
The two were quickly chatting as if they were old friends, and they didn't realise they were in town until Roman accidentally bumped into someone as he was dramatically reenacting a pose from his first musical he performed in, Into the Woods. Roman blurted out a string of apologies, his face flushing red from embarrassment but the man just laughed, saying that it was fine, and continued on his way.
The pair walked through the high street, being more careful of other people this time, Patton's bright smile never wavering which in turn meant that Roman kept a smile just as bright on his face too. They spent an hour just walking around and looking at what shops their new town had to offer and making mental notes of the ones that they wanted to go back to after they'd eaten. Roman was making note of a shop which had loads of merchandise from movies and tv shows when he spotted where they could go and eat. It was a small cafe called Butters. There were a few seats outside but the pair decided to sit inside, where it would be slightly warmer.
On the outside, it looked very simple with plain white walls and the name of the cafe written using giant scrabble letters above the door. Inside, the cafe had a rustic look going for it. There were black and white photos hanging on the walls of random people laughing and chatting across different time periods, some set in the country, others in a city and most by the seaside. Fairy lights adorned the walls as well, casting a warm glow across the cafe. Across the side of the counter was a string of heart-shaped fairy lights, with each heart being a different colour of the rainbow. Wooden tables were set up in, what at first glance looked to be randomly spaced out but, each table was actually perfectly placed so that each group had their own bit of privacy as there was no one sitting right next to them.
Roman and Patton sat down at a 2-seater table with soft, grey, single armchairs. Roman ordered a strawberry milkshake and a cheese and beans baked potato and Patton ordered a Smarties milkshake and a cheese and ham toastie. Their early lunch was pretty uneventful, they spent most of their time ranking their favourite Disney movies. Roman was in the middle of defending his choice of putting Pinocchio above Dumbo and Robin Hood, which Patton strongly disagreed with when his phone pinged. Roman ignored it, but it kept pinging, he gave an apologetic look to Patton who assured him that it was fine, before looking at the messages. They were from an unknown number:
Unknown: yo roman, i need to ask you something
Unknown: princey
Unknown: princeyyyyyy
Unknown: romano
Unknown: sir sing a lot
Unknown: prince underarm stink
