Oops, it's been a hot minute (cough 2 months cough) but I'm back...with a filter chapter...sorry.
I'm not gonna promise that the next chapter will be out soon because I don't know how much writing I can do as school and work is kicking my arse right now.

Warnings: brief mention of scars (not self harm related)

Emile peeled open his heavy eyes to be met with a mop of dark hair tickling his nose. He managed a small smile that was barely visible but a smile none the less as he took in his boyfriend's scent and sleeping face. His eyes trailed over the dark circles under Remy's eyes that never seemed to go away, but suited his face and Emile couldn't picture him without them. Emile spotted the small circular scars on his face, one near his eye and the other on his jaw, from when he got the chickenpox as a kid and picked at it. He let out a breathy laugh as he remembered the extravagant lies Remy told about how he got the scars, until he finally confessed to the true story.

There were two slightly red indents on either side of the bridge of his nose from where his sunglasses rest most of the day, as well as a strong smell of coffee and leather that seemed to follow Remy everywhere. But Emile loved it. That smell reminds him of safety and love, but also the reckless dumbass he loves. It took a while for them to get to where they are now, but it was worth it.

///2 years earlier\\\

Emile walked into school talking at Elliott, who wanted to be anywhere but school. Once they reached the lockers Elliott said a quick goodbye and went to hide in the library until lessons started, leaving Emile alone and bored for the next 20 minutes. He decided to visit the receptionist because they always let him sit with them during lunch and they always have sweets

"Heya Mx Wright"

"Hello dear, Elliott leave you again?"

Emile let out a soft chuckle as he sunk into one of the chairs, "yep"

The doors swung open revealing a boy with sunglasses on his head, one of the lenses slightly cracked, a brown leather jacket with pansexual and asexual flag pins placed prominently on the lapels, as well as various band and movie pins scattered around them. He had a tattered messenger bag slung over his chest, a rainbow Starbucks cup in one hand and his phone in the other.

He glanced up at Mx Wright and Emile with an awkward half smile, blowing away some of his dark hair that fell in front of his face. He walked over to Mx Wright, his slightly heeled boots clacking on the wooden floor,

"Remington Morpheus, I'm guessing"

"Yep, but I prefer to go by Remy"

"Alright, here is your schedule, map of the building and computer login" Mx Wright said as they handed each thing over to Remy

They paused for a moment, before glancing at Remy's timetable and over to Emile, who was playing a game on his phone

"Emile, what is your first lesson again?"

"Um...english" he replied glancing up to see both of them staring at him

"With?"

"Ms Honey"

"Ah perfect, you and Remy have the same class. Be a dear and show him the way?" there was something in their tone that meant that Emile couldn't say no even if he wanted to

He nodded, plastering a smile on his face which faltered slightly as Remy looked him up and down. Emile suddenly felt really self conscious in his pink jumper and denim dungaree shorts with pink high tops but quickly shook it off and walked out of the room, leaving Remy to have to jog to keep up. They walked in an awkward silence until they reached the classroom and parted ways, Emile to his seat and Remy to talk to the teacher.

They didn't see or speak to each other for the rest of the day, until it was home time. Emile was waiting in the car park for his foster siblings and parents, when the leather clad caffeine addict appeared by his side.

"You'd think with a name like Honey, she wouldn't've been such a bitch"

Emile jumped slightly at the sudden voice, but relaxed when Remy offered a small smile

"I know right! One of life's great ironies"

"And the way she insists on calling everyone by their surname like it's the 1800s or something. Also if she keeps going on about hidden meanings behind things I'm going to loose it! It's fog, that's it. It doesn't portray his turmoil or some shit, and when I said that she had a go at me!"

Emile raised his eyebrow with a soft smirk as he listened to Remy continue to rant about how ridiculous English is and that the book seemed to be written in another language. The sunglasses slipped from his head and were now resting precariously on his nose, while he continued to talk unfazed. Emile noticed that he spoke a lot with his hands, it wasn't sign language he was just moving his hands as he spoke.

"Gods, I've only been in LA a week and I already hate it. No offense or anything, it's just so different from Florida and I miss my idiotic best friends."

"It's alright, I know what it's like to move. I had to spend two years in Australia for my Pops' work and I hated every second of it. The people were really nice but it wasn't home, you know?"

Remy hummed in agreement, but before he could say anything else a car horn made the pair jump and look over to see Sloane hanging out the passenger window, calling for Emile.

He exhaled sharply as he bowed his head, a smile tugging at his lips. Emile adjusted his backpack and gave a small wave to Remy before jogging towards the car.

Remy watched as Emile playfully shoved Sloane back into the car before sliding into the back seat. Remy's attention was drawn to his phone where a message from Virgil was waiting. It was a photo of Janus and Remus cuddled on the sofa in a tangle of limbs, with the caption: 'eww love, I miss my third-wheel buddy. How was the new school?'

Remy let out a sad chuckle, missing his friends more than he would admit. He quickly typed back a response,
'It was school, but the people weren't too bad'

Emile snugged closer to his boyfriend, who rolled over so his face was against Emile's chest. He placed his cheek against Remy's hair as he drew random shapes and swirls onto Remy's back with his finger.

His skin felt stiff around his eyes and cheeks from where his tears dried while he slept. He didn't want to face the day, he just wanted to stay with Remy in his arms. He was vaguely aware of his phone lighting up with notifications but he ignored them. He wanted to stay in this moment for as long as he could.

I had an idea for when I finish this book if y'all want it. And by gods I will finish this book, even if it kills me.
Anyways the idea: would you be interested in a prequel?? It would follow Janus, Remus, Virgil, Emile and Remy and their life together before SSPA. I could also do some stuff about the other three as well??

I hope you enjoyed, also a little life update (not that many if any of you are gonna read this but) after a lot of deliberation and help from my best friend, I've decided on what name I want to go by, I will probably never be able to tell my family about this because they're transphobic but that's not gonna stop me from being who I want to be! So..

Hi, my name is Roman or Ro for short (but any nickname is okay) and I use they/them pronouns💜
