The couple was currently sat on their shared king sized bed, the covers strewn across the soft mattress. Jisung felt like they were on opposite sides of the world despite them only being a few inches apart. He wanted so badly to scoot forward so at least their knees could touch. He just wanted to feel again. He hadn't seen or felt her in nearly four months and it was driving him mad. Hesitating for a moment, he decided to lean back and open the top drawer to his bedside table. After a few moments of rustling around, he pulls out a pale yellow scrunchie adorned with small white stars. He had gotten it for her one day when he was away from home. The second he saw it, he knew she had to have it. She didn't know this but Jisung wore it on his right wrist every day up until when he got home and gifted it to her. It just screamed Jay. He almost felt as though the small fabric covered hair tie was like a replacement for the tiny freezing hand he was so used to holding in his own. As he reached up, the girl flinched. Jisung's heart dropped. Nearly a minute later, Jisung dropped his hands back onto his lap. The small girl's hair was now up in a very messy, very lopsided bun, held in place by the color yellow. Her eyes were still trained on her own hands, refusing to look up into the love of her life's eyes. She couldn't break in front of him.
"I just wanted to see your face..."
Nothing.
He cleared his throat and his voice broke.
"I, uh.. I know that things have been really weird and I've been gone for a while. How've you been?"
He couldn't see it yet but the girl's eyes were filled with tears. The sound of his voice brought forth so many bottled up emotions. Though he didn't know, she hadn't really talked to anyone since he left. The most their friends could get out of her was a quiet hum in response to their comments or questions. She spent all of her time in their bedroom either sleeping or crying. They always heard her muffled screams at night but didn't know how to help. Sometimes things would be thrown but they figured she just needed to let it all out. There was nothing they could do. The one person they knew she needed most was the one she was avoiding.
"Scared."
Her voice sounded strained and weak. It gave him chills.
"Bub, why have you been scared?"
She broke.
These weren't the same tears that Jisung had seen when she didn't get to bring the puppy home or when Rapunzel and Eugene got married. He had never seen this side of her. These were the tears he had tried so hard to prevent. He knew in that moment that she was not okay. So he wrapped his arms around her, her body shaking as the sound of sobs and incoherent words filled the room. All Jisung could do was hold her tighter and close his eyes tight to keep himself from crying. He failed the latter. After what felt like hours of reassuring whispers, head kisses and soft back rubs, the girl's crying had come to a halt, being replaced with shallow breaths and closed eyes. She had fallen asleep in his arms. The first time in months. Jisung moved around, managing to lay her down without waking her. His now red, teary eyes stayed on her soft, relaxed face as he pulled the covers up to rest on her chest. He didn't want to look away. Ever. Jisung couldn't help himself. He slowly leaned down to press gentle kisses along her flushed cheeks and nose, his hand resting against her cheek in the end. A shaky exhale left his lips as he leaned down once more to connect their lips for only a moment. Once he found a comfortable position, he laid down and decided to rest until his girlfriend woke up. Just as he was about to fall asleep, he felt a leg wrap over his waist and warm breath fan against his neck. Something he had gotten so used to but then forgot had finally made it's way back. A small smile made it's way onto his face. He felt what he had longer for again.
Home.
