"baby can we get cotton candy?" i chirp, pointing childishly to a cotton candy stand.

"sure, sweetheart, whatever you want," he responds, squeezing my hand once and weaving us through people.

once we get to the counter, tugger buys me one— though it could be turned into three— pink wad of cotton candy.

i pull off a thin strand of it off and let it dissolve on my tongue. i hold the candy out to tugger and he does the same.

"let's go play darts!" i suddenly exclaim, as soon as i spot the little board thing. i don't wait for an answer, as i start walking over to it, pulling tugger along with me.

we get to the board, and tugger starts playing the game. miraculously, he hits all of the special little balloons that give you the most points.

the person running the game tells us we can choose any one of the biggest stuffed animals. tugger picks a cheetah and hands it to me.

i give him the biggest smile and wrap my arms around it tightly. "thank you baby!!!"

tugger smiles lovingly at me. "of course."

we find an empty picnic table and share the cotton candy happily. i put my cheetah friend on the bench beside me.

"what're you gonna call him?" tugger asks, gesturing to my friend.

i think for a moment. "leo," i say firmly.

tugger squints. "but he's a cheetah, not a lion."

"yes but it's august 16th, which is during leo season."

"what the hell are you talking about?"

"astrology, baby," i mumble. "you wouldn't get it."

      tugger huffs, crossing his arms.

somehow, just as the sun is setting, we make our way into the line for the ferris wheel.

tugger sits on my right, his left arm around me.

the ride starts moving and i grab his hand instinctively.

he smiles at me. "it's okay, cutie. you're okay."

i nod slowly, wiggling my toes to distract myself. "i'm okay," i repeat.

before i know it, we're at the very tippity-top. forgetting about my nerves, i look around, almost staring directly into the sun, which is setting in the most perfect of ways. there are some wispy little clouds around, and the light peeks through them.

i glance at tugger. the way the light reflects off his already glowing skin is... more than beautiful. he looks at me. "what?" he asks quietly.

i blink and look away. "nothing," i say quickly. "you're just... pretty."

tugger laughs quietly, and stares at me. it feels like he could read every single one of my thoughts, know every little thing i've ever felt.

unwillingly, i lean forward a tiny bit. i have to muster up a million different shards of courage to say two very powerful words. "kiss me?"

   hi how are ya?
