Nightmare's pov

I trudged forward through the thick shady forest, my legs trembling with each step I took.

I'm so scared. I could just go another way, but then I'd get lost, and I don't want to get lost with Aiden and his friends lurking in the forest.

I eventually stop walking. I don't know how long I've been trekking along here, but judging by how much darker the sky has gotten it must've been a while.

I slump down against a tree, and rest my sore feet.

Then... I hear... voices. This can't be good...

"He can't be far from here... I think I can feel his aura. How do I know? BECAUSE I'M REALLY PISSED!!"

"Carson, calm down. Save your anger for when we catch that mistake."

O-oh no... no no no please just no...

I cover my mouth to hide my shaky breaths. My entire body shakes and quivers, and my bones rattle so violently they're silent.

The footsteps come closer and closer, until...

Fwoosh

"Haha, found you~!"

Carson had scooped me up, with his hands holding me up beneath my arms.

"L-let me go! Please!"

I said as I tried to squirm out of his hold.

He laughed, and Aiden did too.

"Pfft, he can't even get away! How pathetic! Hahahaha!"

Carson suddenly dropped me, and I landed with a thud on my tailbone.

Ow... that hurt.

"Ooh a stick!"

Carson said before-

Wham!

I felt a wave of dizziness and pain, before my vision finally cleared.

What just happened?

"Pfft, he can barely even take a little poke to the head!"

I feel like I'm drowning...

"But we didn't poke him-"

Carson and Aiden...

"Quiet Carson!"

They hit me with that large stick. It hurts. I feel sick.

"We cracked his skull! Cool!"

"I think we should add to that~!"

No... please no...!

A burning sensation spreads throughout the left side of my ribcage as I heard a loud snap, and the same happens to my right arm as I feel the bone being twisted. I feel an awful pain on my legs too.

I hear screaming. Who's screaming? Oh wait... I think it's me...

Everything is blurry and pain overcomes me. I can't scream anymore. My throat feels raw, and I can't see... my left eye feels broken...

Somebody help me...please... don't leave me here... it hurts...

3rd person pov,

[one hour after Carson and Aiden return]

Aiden and Carson put on a fake worried expression to deceive the positive guardian.

"We couldn't find him..."

The lie slipped through Aiden's lips like second nature.

Carson nodded, also looking sympathetic in only the fakest way.

"W-what?! Y-you couldn't find Nighty?! W-what if he's hurt or-"

"Dream. Calm down, I'm sure your brother is okay! And besides, I'm pretty sure he'd drive away any hostile animals with his negative aura. I'm sure NOTHING would've hurt him. He's probably just lost!"

Veronica said, shooting the worried Dream a fake smile.

"It's getting dark out... we should probably head home!"

Aiden said, stretching his arms out into the air.

"B-but what about my brother?"

Dream said, tears pricking at his eyesockets.

"Don't worry, we can look for him in the morning!"

Lilith said, trying to ease the small golden skeleton into leaving.

She didn't want him to see what they did to his twin brother.

"O-okay... but we're looking for him first thing tomorrow morning okay?"

Dream said, trying to sound stern and demanding but failing miserably.

"okay."

Axel said in his gruff voice.

"Sure thing little buddy."

Aiden said as he gave the tiny guardian a noogie.

And with that, they wandered back into the town.

Carson, Veronica, Axel and Lilith said goodnight and went home.

It was just Aiden and Dream.

"Do you have anywhere to stay tonight Dream?"

Aiden asked him, and he nodded.

"I have some friends in the library..."

He said, still seeming shaken up over his missing brother.

"Alrighty then. Have a good night!"

"You too..."

Then, Aiden disappeared into his home.

Dream walked to the library, and opened the door. The little bells on the door chimed, alerting Linda.

"Dream?"

"..."

"It's almost 10:30 why are you still-... where's Nightmare...?"

A choked sob escaped Dream's mouth.

Then, Neil suddenly burst into the room shirtless.

"Is everything okay?"

"N-Nightmare h-he's lost! I-I-I don't know how to f-find him... PLEASE HELP ME LOOK FOR HIM!"

Dream said as he broke down crying.

Linda and Neil rushed to his side and hugged him. It hurt them to see Dream break down like that. He's such a sweet boy.

"Don't worry sweetie, we'll find him. If anything we should go right now."

Linda said, grabbing a pair of sneakers and exchanging them with her shiny black heels. She then grabbed a fluffy blanket, as it can get quite cold at night.

Neil put a shirt on, and put his shoes on.

"Where did you last see Nightmare?"

Neil asked the small guardian.

"I-in the forest..."

They rushed out the door on that note, and ran towards the forest. Dream's stubby little legs couldn't carry him as fast as Linda or Neil, so Linda scooped him up and off they ran to find Nightmare.
