Linda's pov
We ran and ran and ran. My throat was becoming hoarse from all the yelling.
Eventually, a speck of purple was visible in the dark green bushes.
"BROTHER?!"
3rd person pov
They ran over to the tiny unconscious skeletal figure.
There laid sweet little Nighty, with a large split crack on the top of the left side of his skull, which stretched down the the socket and on the cheek.
His legs were twisted in the wrong angles, and his arm was bent funny.
He laid there completely motionless.
Tears poured from Dream's eyes, and Linda and Neil gasped. Tears pricked at both the adults eyes.
Linda and Neil gently picked the limp body up, and Neil wrapped him up in the blanket and handed him back to Linda. Neil scooped up Dream, and they sprinted as fast as they could to the doctor's office located in the middle of town.
They soon arrived and burst the door, both adults huffing for air.
The poor doctor jolted awake and adjusted her glasses.
"NGgHghH how can I help y-... OH MY GOODNESS!"
The deer monster clasped her hands over her mouth as she stared at the marrow-soaked blanket, and ushered Linda and Neil into a medical room along with Dream and Nightmare in both adults arms.
The doctor gently took Nightmare out of Linda's arms, un-wrapped him and took off his crown, and began to undo his shirt.
Dream sobbed louder and louder, until the young doctor kindly asked them to wait in the waiting room as she couldn't concentrate. Neil carried Dream into the waiting room, with Linda following behind.
Neil and Linda tried to calm Dream down, and the doctor was trying to mend the broken bones and heal the scratches littering Nightmare's body.
Soon, the doctor was finished and walked out into the waiting room to find the adults quietly talking, and a sleeping Dream curled up on Neil's lap.
"I've finished up with him, and he has some terrible injuries... two large skull fractures; one fresh, one old. His top two ribs on the left have severe cracks, both legs are broken, and there is still a small fracture in his right socket area. Also, some old cracks on his arms and spine were visible, so I healed those. You may go see him, but please stay quiet because he's asleep."
Whispered the young doctor, trying not to wake the sleeping Dream but failing as he twitched, and slowly opened his eyes.
Neil took notice of Dream waking up, and smiled softly at him.
"Try and keep your voice down, okay? We need to let your brother sleep."
Neil whispered to Dream as he picked him up and rested him against his shoulder.
Dream nodded, and Neil and Linda followed the doctor into Nightmare's room.
The doctor gently opened the door, to reveal Nightmare sleeping in a clean white bed; the kind you'd see in doctors offices like these. There was an extra blanket folded nicely at the end of the bed, and medical tools next to the bed, and a glass of water.
"N-Nightmare..."
Dream said, his voice wavering as more tears filled his sockets.
Linda and Neil felt their hearts break. Nightmare was such a sweet little boy. He didn't deserve this. And poor Dream... he didn't deserve to see his brother like this either.
Dream squirmed in Neil's arms, wanting to be put down. Neil noticed, and put Dream down.
Dream crawled onto Nightmare's bed, and curled up at the end of the bed.
The doctor was about to protest against Dream lying near Nightmare, but stopped herself. She exited the room, feeling incredible guilt for the four people.
Neil and Linda watched sadly as Dream fell asleep once again.
Linda gently took the folded blanket from beneath Dream, and covered him.
Dream let out little whimpers. He just wanted everyone to be happy. He just wanted everything to be okay.
But... things would only continue to go downhill.
