Sophie's POV

I watched in horror as my father repeatedly hit my mother across the face. There was never a day that went by where he didn't hit her or me. I have been living like this since my older brother Dallas left us when I was 9. That was 6 years ago. Imagine a once jolly and cheerful 9 year old get left behind by the one person she looked up to and get stuck with a monster and a mother who didn't care for her anymore. I'm Sophie Winston and my life is a disaster.

"STOP HITTING HER!!" I don't know why I always stuck up for her even though she hasn't cared for me for 6 years. I just never liked seeing her get hit by that monster I guess.

"What did you say you little shit?" I gulped. I shouldn't have said anything. My father turned his attention to me. Rage filled his eyes as he walked over to me. He reeked of alcohol and cigarettes. He slapped me so hard it made me fall to the ground. Next thing I knew he was on top of me throwing punches. I caught his arm before it hit me again and head butted him. He fell backwards groaning.

Before Dally had left he taught me how to fight and stand up for myself just in case I needed it. Thank god for that. I looked at my father who was getting up. My mother laid motionless on the ground. My dad charged at me, I side stepped and he went running into the wall. I took this opportunity and ran. I grabbed my backpack which was already packed with my things because I had planned on running away anyway. I ignored the shouts from my father and ran as fast as I could down the road. I turned to see my father running after me. Everything happened so fast I didn't expect what happened next. A car came zooming from the right and smashed right into my father. I gasped and watched as the driver got out. I didn't stay any longer and ran.

I hitched a cab and told the women to take me to the airport.

"I'll see you soon Dally. Very soon" I said softly to where only I could hear.

*In Tulsa, Oklahoma*

I stepped out of the airport into the small town. Tulsa was completely different from New York. I didn't care to catch a ride and started walking in a random direction. I didn't see many adults and more teenagers. I saw some in mustangs wearing nice clothes and others in beat up trucks and t birds. Some group of boys were wearing black leather jackets and jeans with slicked back hair with too much grease.

I kept my head low not wanting to be noticed by anyone. I stopped dead in my tracks when I realized I had no idea where Dally would be. I sighed and ran my hand through my dark brown wavy hair. I started walking again when a blue mustang pulled up.

"Whats a doll like you walkin lonesome hm?" I looked at the boy in the passenger. His hair was neat and he was wearing a red sweater which was not his color.

"I'm not about to waste my time with some stuck up snobs" I turned and kept walking. The boys pulled up in front of me and got out. There was 4 of them in total. They all came up to me. I reached behind to my back pocket and grabbed my blade that Dally had given me. I hid it in my sleeve just incase I would need to pull it.

"We don't like no dirty Greaser talkin to us like dat" I lifted an eyebrow at him in confusion. Greaser? What the fuck is a greaser?

"Look I ain't want no trouble I just came here lookin for my brother" They looked at each other and the one who was driving got closer to me.

"How bout we show this Greaser who runs this town" The boys all smiled and nodded. The one in front of me pulled his arm back but I was faster than he was. I ducked his swing and punched him right in the balls. I flicked my blade out and held it up.

"I said I ain't want no trouble" The boys backed up a little but still had those disgusting smirks on their faces. A voice from behind me made me jump

"You hear the lady GET OUTTA HERE!" The boys seemed scared and hurried to their car and sped off. I let out a sigh and turned around. I gasped at who it was.

"Dally?" Tears welled up in my eyes and I felt my hands go all sweaty. His eyes widened

"Sophie?! I-I what are you doing here?" I didn't respond and hugged him. I held him as if I never wanted to let go.

"Mom, Dad they abused me. I had to leave. B..before I left dad got hit by a car. But I didn't care to see if he was alright and ran away as fast as I could" He pulled back and moved my hair out of my face. He's changed a lot since the last time I seen him. His hair was a bit longer and as blond as ever. His eyes no longer held joy but were dark and hard. He dressed sluggish in a black jacket and black shirt. Along with jeans and chuck tailers. He looked so tuff. His hair was slicked with grease but not too much.

"Oh my god I'm sorry. I didn't know" I shook my head and backed away.

"It's ok Dally. I'm away from them now" I didn't want to ask him why he left so soon. I didn't want to ruin anything so soon.

"Dally, what are greasers? Who were those boys?" He ran a hand in his hair and pulled out cigarettes from his pocket.

"Those were Socs. Don't ever talk to them or be friends with any of them. They're all the same douchebags. Tulsa is different Soph. Its run by two gangs. The Socs on the southside and Greasers on the east. I'm a greaser hense the outfit and grease in my hair. My buddies are all greasers. We don't have much money but the Socs are the spoiled rich kids. They taunt us and pick fights. They jump any greasers they can get a hold of. This town isn't safe but I won't let you go back" I took a moment to process what I was just told.

"So does that make me a Greaser then too?" Dally shrugged and slung his arm around my shoulders and directed me in the opposite way I was going.

"Only if you wanna be. Trust me it ain't sum to be excited for" I nodded and smiled. I finally found my brother after all these years. And theres no way I'm letting anyone split us up again.

"So Dal where do you live?" He threw his cigarette butt at some old hag who gave him a gross look.

"I live with my buddy Buck, but for you I have a place for you to stay" I looked up at him

"Who?"

"My buddy Darry, he lives a few blocks away with his 2 younger brothers Sodapop and Ponyboy" I giggled at their names. Not that they're bad but because I've never heard them before.

"We're going to meet up with the gang. Darry is 20, Sodapop is 17, Ponyboy Curtis is 15, Johnny Cade is 16, Two-bit Matthews is 18, and Steve Randle is 18"

"Two-bit?"

"His name is Keith but he's always got some sarcastic remark to say so we all call him Two-Bit. Don't call him Keith he'll get mad" I laughed and nodded. I could tell him and I would be friends as I am quite the bitch.
