Ever After (Shinobu x Giyuu)

Chapter 2: Again

Books towered over Shinobu as she studied at the local library. Her final exams were coming up soon and her head injury prevented her from studying more than she would have liked. After Kanae accidentally told their dad about the accident, he rushed her to their hospital to get a CT scan. After confirming that she wasn't going to die within the next five hours due to brain damage, her mother who was a neurologist ordered her to rest for the weekend. However, Shinobu was use to this kind of over protectiveness and calmly yet firmly told them that she needed to study for her final exams. The compromise was that she would be able to study at the nearby library over the weekend if she came back home before dark. Shinobu sighed as she twirled her pencil around. Sekeirei's Academy for Young Women was already a prestigious and fiercely competitive high school and Shinobu has consistently been within the top five of her freshman class. Meaning that there are many who were waiting for her to fall in rankings. Nothing could ever hide their jealous stares as they crowd around the bulletin board that demonstrated their academic worth.

And that's how she ended up here, studying at the dusty old library with a precalculus book in front of her. She was determined to get a medical degree and inherit her family's hospital with Kanae. Though her family loved the both of them, there was a lot of societal pressure for a man to inherit the hospital. And because of their family's prestigious lineage along with the fact that Kanae was drop dead gorgeous, many men have been trying to court Kanae. The thought of anyone incompetent and greedy entering the family turned Shinobu's blood cold. She took a deep breath and quelled her anger for Kanae's suitors. There was no way in hell that she'd let anyone take away her sister away without getting past her first.

The pencil fluttered along the page as Shinobu solved problem after problem. It stopped, however, when her phone vibrated with a notification.

Let's meet at the mall tomorrow at 2?

It was Kamado. The awful person who caused this whole head injury fiasco. Shinobu felt her anger rise again as she remembered that he had slept through their previous arranged meeting. It would have made sense if it was arranged at nine in the morning, but apparently one in the afternoon was too early for him. Her phone was still cracked as she paced around the meeting spot for fifteen minutes. Remembering this, she texted back

Yes. Don't be late this time or I'll be billing you for the CT scan (:

Of course there was no need to for him to pay for the CT scan as it was her family's hospital. But, there was no need for him to know that. Shinobu turned back to her math problems as it was looking more attractive than her actual problems. If he showed up late to their next meeting, Shinobu wouldn't hesitate to use her social connections to absolutely destroy him. Being in two clubs, pharmaceutical and fencing, at a prestigious high school along with her academic standing, she had no shortage of connections. Everyone knows how terrifying rich young ladies are when they're serious. 

The numbers in her math book pulled her away from her scheming and dulled her mind. Her pencil returned to writing numbers and jotting down formulas. Equation one. Equation two. Time slowed down. 

x = 3 y + 4 z

t = 15 g + 9

z ...

z ...

....

"Shinobu nee-chan?!"

Shinobu jolted up in her seat. Her lavender eyes met with dark blue ones as her chair started to tip backwards. The chair stopped mid motion however as she sensed two other people right behind her. She grabbed the edge of the table and slowly brought her chair back onto the ground.

"Are you ok Shinobu nee-chan?" Makomo said as she clutched onto Shinobu's chair afraid that she would tip over again. 

"Giyuu you shouldn't have snuck up on her," Sabito scolded as he lightly knocked on Giyuu's forehead.
