Paradise Island Resort, Maldives
16th May 2018Samara had lazed around all afternoon and hadn't left her bed until evening. All her thoughts were constantly going back to that kiss on the beach with Vivaan. She thought sleep would distract her but clearly, it didn't. So, she freshened up in the evening, put on her dark blue jeans, a red tank top and her favourite black leather jacket.
After some time, she found herself at the resort restaurant, having an incredibly boring dinner with her parents. She tapped her foot impatiently waiting for the dinner to end so that her parents could go and sleep and she could escape.
"Have you started looking up for medical colleges?" Her father asked, snapping her out of her thoughts.
"The results are not out yet" She replied without looking up.
"That's not an excuse Samara. You know how important this is. You need to get in a good medical college. There is a lot of competition out there. I don't want anything to go wrong. Take this seriously" He said giving her a disappointed look that she had gotten used to.
"I'll do it tonight" She replied, not meaning a single word she said.
"You better. Carelessness is the last thing we expect from you. Your dad and I are so worried about your results already." Her mom said sternly. This was the last thing Samara needed on a vacation.
'The Career Talk'. It only reminded her that she would never have the future she wants. It'll rather be what her parents want. And she'll be having a long, boring life, where she would have no passion for her own profession. And her dreams, they had shattered a long time ago.
"Of course. I'll try not to disappoint you" Samara said bitterly glaring at her mother.
"That's not the way you your mother, Samara. Apologise to her, now" Her dad demanded.
She could see that her father wasn't angry. He just looked disappointed.
"Let her be. She doesn't care. We don't mean anything to her." Maya sighed dramatically, glancing at her husband.
"Can we please not do this here?" Ahaan said as he held his sister's hand when he saw her about to give another not-so-pleasant reply to their parents.
"I'm sorry, mom" She said robotically, staring at her plate.
The conversation then thankfully drifted to some other boring topic.
Later, they retreated to their room and she was finally left alone. She checked the time, it was 11:15 pm. She was late. She highly doubted that Vivaan would still be there at the shore, waiting for her. Could she go now? Should she go now? She had strongly made up her mind about not going but why was her decision wavering now? After pondering on the thought back and forth for the next 10 mins, she finally decided to go. What was there to lose?
She didn't know what was so compelling about him that even after saying no to him at the beach, she found herself quickly picking up her diary and sneaking out of her hotel room.*********
