"So, this is your town?" Cole says, his lips coming away from his ice-cream as he looks around our high street.
"Yup." I pop the p and smile looking around as well. I loved how on Sunday's they always had a little market on where so many different little stalls would pop up containing the most beautiful, unique things.
"I feel like it's hotter here." He says, fanning himself dramatically and then smiles down at me. "It's nice here Ives, I get why you were so excited to come back."
"I do love it, I just, I'm not sure I want to stay here forever."
"No?"
"Well, all my friends go off to university soon, I'm not sure what's here for me if they're not."
"And you still don't want to go?"
"No I um, there's this apprenticeship degree thing, where I could continue working, doing what I'm doing, but I'd learn on the job, all the work would be online."
"And you could do that here?" Cole asks as we walk through the markets together, my eyes are trained on the little bits of handmade jewellery and he's next to me going through the little stack of records.
"Yeah, my dad said he would offer it to me, or I know that a few other schools in the area do it too."
We move on to the next stall and sift through the books, I pick up a little paperback book titled 'the world and all its unbroken pieces'.
"You could go anywhere Ivy, you could do that anywhere."
"I guess I never thought about that." I say and flick through the little book, holding it tentatively with my fingers, the pages feeling fragile.
i find you,
in sad songs,
the sound of rain,
sunsets,
sundays,
smiles,
and all,
the small things.
"You want it?" Cole asks and my eyes flick up to him and shrug.
"Nah, it's just-"
"A present." He grins at me. "You feed me, shelter me, may as well buy you the little book."
"Thankyou." I smile back at him and he exchanges words and money with the little old lady behind the stall.
"Ivy?" A voice says and I turn around to see Jayden and Max.
"Oh hey!' I smile, my friendly tone shocking Jayden and I smile at Max.
"Hey." Max steps forward and gives me a small hug in greeting as Cole turns back around, my book in a little paper bag in his hands.
"It actually feels weird not having seen you in a few days." I laugh at Max and he agrees. In the time that Jackson slept we always talked about how strange it was we were both here, how he never imagined that we'd both actually ever get on, how he was so sorry for the way he tried to get Jackson to stay away from me. How he was happy that Jackson didn't listen.
Cole stands and grins at the two boys, his confidence shinning through.
"Hey, ive tried messaging you." Jayden says and his eyes are a little confused at Max and I's friendliness.
