-Life's good when it's lived for oneself; it's great when lived for others. The true means of happiness is to lose your mind by thinking for others!"
- "A good life is a collection of happy moments."
Rex sighed and walked on again.
He had spent all day collecting leaves, he had even helped make the tea. Night had fallen and they had moved out.
He was super tired, but he refused to drink more of the Devil's Brew. "Leave it for the ones who need it." he had said.
Skyliar was walking on in front of him, beside her was the General, beside him was the Commander, he was originally with them. But the pain in his side was screaming, and he had been forced to slow down.
He watched as Anakin glanced behind, then slowed down to keep pace with him.
"Hey," he started, "Are you ok?" concern flashed in the Jedi's eyes.
Rolling his neck, and sweating lightly under his helmet, he shook his head, "I'm fine."
Anakin was quiet for a bit, then he stared in front of them, "Rex, you have been my Captain for a long time." he grabbed the clone's shoulder and leaned in, "Please, don't lie."
Rex, thankfully, didn't get to answer, for, ahead. Ahsoka had called them up, Anakin walked quickly, while Rex lagged behind.
"Yes?" Anakin asked.
"We are here." Skyliar said, her face dull and solem in the night. Rex wondered why she was upset. Anakin must have sensed it.
"Skyliar, is there a problem?" he asked.
"Just...my people probably won't be too keen to see a bunch of soldiers, we are a neutral planet, seeing you could cause fear, I suggest that just me and you go in."
Ahsoka stepped in between them, "Ah ah!" she said, "What if it's a trap?"
Rex's face hardened, "Why would it be a trap?" he asked. "She hasn't given us any reason not to trust her!" he stated, glancing at Skyliar.
Anakin sighed, "Fine. I'll take someone with a little more sense, Echo?" The ARC trooper scampered up and stood at attention. "You'll come with us." he turned, his gaze raking over Rex. "Take care." he turned, vanishing into the jungle.
Anakin pushed back a large leafy branch, Skyliar ducked under, followed swiftly by Echo, finally Anakin ran after them.
Skyliar stopped up short, Echo skidded to a stop, and Anakin slowly stopped.
"What's the hold up?" he asked.
Skyliar turned around then looked back, pointing at the metal wall, she stopped and flipped up a pocket in the wall, poking and pushing buttons, the door to her left creaked open.
"You have tech?" Echo asked.
Skyliar glanced back, a teasing smile on her face, "Yes, Echo. We prefer the old way, but we aren't savages."
"I never said that! You just acted like you...didn't?"
Anakin shook his head and smiled, walking through the door after Skyliar.
He gaped at the vast trees, some as thick as a small ship, they had doors, and stairs spiraled upwards, platforms and huts sat on giant branches. Skyliar must've caught them staring, for she smiled.
"The trees, they are mostly hollow, so we don't have to worry about hurting them." she lifted her hands up and gestured at them, "We call them Pish'a trees, in my native language, it means home."
Anakin nodded, looking up at the large trees "Good name. Where to?"
"This way."
Ignoring the stares they were getting from passing citizens who were still up at this time, they walked towards a large tree, smaller than the other yet still vast, its twisting roots burdened with leaves as large as a man. Skyliar brushed away a large leaf like a curtain and ushered for them to go inside.
A grizzled old man sat in the back of the hollow, despite the hour, he was still awake. His white hair brushed past his knees, and gnarled black horns were beyond his shoulders, he had white skin with blue tattoos in an unknown language to Anakin.
Skyliar stepped forward and knelt down on her knees, she nodded her head for them to follow.
In a twisted language, the old man spoke. It sounded like rustling leaves in the wind, and trees growing year after year, like water falling from the sky and leaving sharp rushing grooves in the mud. Skyliar got to her feet slowly, waving her hand for them to follow.
Anakin stood up, "What did he say?" he asked.
Skyliar glanced at him, "This is our Clan Leader, Row'an, and he wishes to know why the Republic and their...." she looked down and grimaced, "cl-ones...are are here."
Anakin narrowed his eyes understanding that wasn't the exact translation, "Say that we are here to protect and return what was rightfully ours."
Skyliar nodded and did so.
The old man's eyes narrowed, he spat out raging words and Skyliar winced, rambling on, they had a fitful argument, eventually he said something that sort of sounded like a death threat, and Skyliar quieted down. She slowly turned back to Anakin.
"He will not take your wounded," she said mournfully, her eyes unhappy.
