She trusted me.
I groaned while pulling at my hair. My feet slapped the concrete hard, which showed all the emotion that I was feeling at the moment. Why did she trust me?
"The last people that trusted you ended up paying for it, hard." A slurred voice called out. I groaned again, since I immediately recognized who it came from. There was only one person that I knew of that drank to the point of slurring.
"Now? Really not the time, Luke." I spat. Luke ran up to me and placed a hand on my shoulder.
"No, now really is the time." Luke rolled his eyes. "She just spilled her petty little rich version of a sad life's story to you! She trusts you! And you're letting her in; keeping her close. She already trusts you, for heaven's sake! Don't you realize what's happening?"
"How do you know everything that's happening in my life? Are you stalking me or something?" I questioned with no warmth in my voice. Luke scoffed.
"I love watching you. I never have anything better to do with it." He replied sarcastically. "We both know what's happening, Ashton. So man up and face it."
I stopped walking. With a loud sigh, I buried the palms of my hands into my face. "I'm not an idiot, Luke! I know what's going to happen!" I whispered out into the cold night air.
"Care to admit it?" He smirked while crossing his arms over his chest. "Admit what you've been hiding from yourself; from me even. I want to actually hear the Ashton Irwin say the words that will ultimately screw him over."
"You don't deserve that kind of privilege." I spat while pushing myself away from Luke. "Besides, what you're thinking isn't true. I don't like Genevieve."
Luke sighed dramatically while throwing his tattooed arms up in the air. "Fine! Don't admit it to me! Just say it to yourself, then! Say it in that screwed up little brain of yours! You're falling for Genevieve, but you're too scared to admit it!"
I rolled my eyes and scoffed. "I don't like Gen." I said again. Luke rolled his eyes and pursed his thin pink lips.
"Then why are you calling her 'Gen?' You only use nicknames for people that you really know well, like me and her. I can see you letting your guard down whenever you're near her." Luke argued while crossing his arms. "You even smiled at her. Smiled! Didn't you swear that you would never smile again after what happened?"
My blood ran cold. "Don't you bring it up again, Lucas." I growled. "You said that you would never bring that up again!"
I advanced towards him with my fists balled up at my sides, but then I stopped. I took a deep breath in and let it out slowly.
Don't hit him. Don't be like your dad.
"I don't need to talk to you." I spat while walking away. "You really aren't worth my time."
"Come on, Ashton! Aren't you going to hit me?" Luke yelled with his arms wide open. I rolled my eyes at him. "What, you walk away from your problems now? What ever happened to fighting it out?"
"I'm not going to hit you." I spat while picking up my speed.
"Why? Are you just now remembering that I was your best friend, or do you not want to fight when things don't go your way anymore? Don't sons usually want to grow up to be like their fathers?"
I stopped walking and clenched my fists to my sides. "Leave me alone." I growled.
"What? You were ready to hit me just last month when I brought this subject up before! Are you too good for me now? Are you too high and mighty to punch me?" Luke screamed out in anger. While ignoring the string of profanities that he called out to me, I began to make my way back to camp. "I'm so done with you, Ashton. You know that, right?" Luke screamed out. "I'm done with this!"
