The nylon danced as the orange rubber sphere spun through, sending the white net reeling upwards. The basketball bounced on the wooden floor and its sound echoed throughout the desolate gym.

I hadn't been back to the gym in over two months. There was a sole reason why I had stepped away from my weekly game, Drew. Today was the day I faced one of my demons and I was ready to slay the bastard.

To want what you can't have, to covet what belongs to another is in the nature of man. Today, many singers and artists are always singing about possessing another man's woman. It's as if there is a shortage of females in the world. To walk away with what belonged to another is one of the tactics long ago.

Drew must have felt invincible after coming into my life, stealing what was mine and having me out of the picture. I di nothing that day. I simply walked out , never to return. He paid no price; there were no repercussions or consequences. He walked in and captured my kingdom without a fight and raised his arms in victory feeling like a God.

I knew no one would be at the court when I left home but I couldn't stay at home. The guys would start to trickle in soon enough and were going to ask me where I had been, but today wasn't about catching up; it was about taking back what was mine. It was about waging a war.

He could keep Sophia, but I needed to salvage a piece of myself by facing him. He entered my life and stole what was mine. By just walking away, I lost something. I couldn't put my finger on it, but I knew something was missing. Perhaps it was self-respect, ego, pride or my masculinity. I just knew I had to face him, especially because I was scared.

He would be surprised to see me, but then again, I was already nervous. My hands were clammy and left moist hand prints on the ball. Adrenaline pumped through my veins. Each time the beige, gym door swung open, I held my breath, scared to turn around and yet eager to face him, to face my fear.

Finally he walked through, laughing and joking. He hadn't seen me at first and continued to smile as he jested with Sean. Raising his head, he met my gaze. A cold shudder passed through me. Drew stood a good three inches taller than me and had a bit of burly build. He slowed down and almost stopped. The last thing he expected to see was me. He probably believed I was out of his life for ever.

Anger filled me instantly. I slammed the ball in my hands and was ready at that moment to rip him apart. The rest of the guys stopped shooting around and turned towards Drew and then towards me. They knew this wasn't going to be an ordinary game, but they also knew not to get involved.

"Let's play," my voice was stone cold.
