Chad's POV
(Reminiscing the past where he first met Raul)Greenston punched the accelerator on his new 1995 Honda Civic as the lights turned amber.
"Green, take it easy!" I screamed like a girl.
"Chad, can you feel that kick? This car is awesome!"
"Yes, yes I can feel the kick, now can you just slow it down!" I yelled.
"Slow? Dude, this wasn't made to be driven slow," and with that, my 17-year-old cousin floored it down the streets of Charlotte.
Why is that the young ones are obsessed with speed? Was I like this at his age? Then again, I was his age three years ago.
"His flight lands in five minutes, and I want to get there before he exits the plane otherwise this sign is a waste," he hollered over the music as he snaked through the traffic.
Greenston and Raul ad grown up together here in New York, and he'd been away for the summer visiting our grandparents in Philippines. My cousin's excitement had deprived him of sleep the night before. He couldn't wait to show Raul his most recent acquisition, fully loaded with tinted windows, spoiler and allow wheels.
"I'm telling you, cuz, you're really going to gel with Raul," he stated as he sped towards the off-ramp, "He loves movies, video games and is a big basketball fan like you but I can kick his ass on the court."
"Great, I'm really proud of you," I expressed, unable to hide the trepidation in my voice.
"Chill," Greenston laughed, "I drive like this all the time; we're good."
Somehow his reassurance did anything but to reassure me. In fact, it worried me even more. There are only so many times you can tempt fate by driving like a maniac. At that moment, we drove by a bumper sticker that read, "Speed Kills!"
"Green, slow down!" I screamed at him again, "For God's sake, just slow down!"
"Damn, you're worse than our grandparents."
I didn't mind dig since it finally did slow him down, although not for longgg.
We waited outside the gate as he held up a sign that read 'Doughnut Poker'. In spite of Green being blood, I refused to acknowledge him and sat a few feet away from the gate.
Raul finally stepped through the gate and they hugged like s long lost lovers reunited. I would later share that with them only to have them turn all their jokes on me. Kids can be cruel sometimes.
"Raul, this is my cousin Chad, he's visiting from Manila. Cuz, this is my old buddy Raul."
"How are you doing, Chad? Green has been telling me about his 'cool cuz' from the Philippines for awhile now."
"Ahhhh, well what can I say Raul, Green told me same old stories about you too."
For some reason I expected him to be bigger, but he was the same size as my cousin, just chubbier. He stood about 5'7" and those three inches between them and It only made me see them more as a kids.
"Really, what stories has this punk been telling you?" Raul raised an eyebrow.
"Guys, can we just talk while walking?" Green commanded as he led the way, "Raul I have got something to show you, it's going to blow your mind!"
"Well, he keeps telling me about how you guys would play outdoors as kids, and about the time you sat down to have your lunch, but you didn't noticed that you sat in a bunch of red ants."
"Oh shit! You told him that?" he turned to Green who was already laughing.
"You began to itch not sure what was going on and after you saw the ants biting at you, you threw your sandwich in the air, shrieked and ran home. When Green came over to see how you were doing, he saw you hiding behind your mum, naked and covered with Vaseline."
Greenston and I burst into laughter but Raul just stopped and shook his head.
"I will never going to live that one down, am I?"
"Cuz, I got worse stories about him and his escapades with Vaseline! I'll tell you later," Green sniggered.
"I'm surprised you haven't yet told him," Raul said giving Green a friendly shove.
