Micah's POV

The flickering light from the television sporadically illuminated the room. They were selling another grill that was guaranteed to burn off 90% of the fat from all meats or your money back. The images reflected off to my spectacle lenses, but I wasn't paying attention. Unable to sleep, I did whatever I could to keep myself busy. After taking a bath, oiling my hair, painting my nails and cleaning up the house, I had nothing left to do. I kept calling Raul in spite of knowing I would only get his voice mail, and yet with every recurring call, I hoped and prayed that it would at least ringing. If it rang, there was a chance that he may pick up and I could hear his voice and talk to him.

📲: "You have reached the voicemail of..." the mechanical voice echoed.

I felt a sudden tear caressed my cheek as I slowly replaced the phone and turned towards the television.

"Honey, why are you still up?" my mum whispered as she came down the stairs.

I wiped my tear instantly so that my mum can't see it.

Draped in a blue grey sleeping clothes, I saw mum tied her hair in a ponytail and sat beside me on the brown, plush sofa.

"I can't sleep mum," I said transfixed to the television.

"Why? What are you watching, honey?"

"Just can't sleep"

Mommy placed her hand on my shoulder.

"Go to bed, try to sleep," she appealed softly.

"I tried, but I still can't," my response was cold.

"He'll call you, just keep your phone next to you."

We sat accompanied only by the low volume of the infomercial.

"If I lose him because of this," I began without shifting my glare, "I won't forgive you and Dad."

I saw in my peripheral view how mum turned towards me in shock, she stay silent not knowing how to respond. Minutes went by while mum digested what I've said.

"Honey, we didn't mean for this to happen, we just want what's best for you," mum held my limp hand, "It's our duty as you parent to look out for your best interest."

I know that mum waited patiently for my response but there was none. I don't want to argue with my mum about this, not now, all I want for now is to fix my relationship with my boyfriend.

Mum knew that I don't want to talk about this now and I know that she understand it was best to give me the space I needed.

"I'm going back before your Daddy wakes up. Try and get some sleep, honey," she kissed my forehead and made her way upstairs.

The tears began to flow once again but I stayed silent not wanting to alarm my mommy. Biting my quivering lower lip, I held back, waiting until I heard the bedroom door closing before I released the emotion I'm holding. Sobbing into the cream silk cushion, I muffled my moans so as not to wake my parents.

Several moments passed before I regained my composure and decided to take up mums advice. Replacing the cushion on the sofa, I switched the television off and made my way up the carpeted steps to my room. The melody of my cellular phone immediately grabbed my attention. My eyes widened and I ran back down the stairs to the coffee table and in one swift motion, grabbed abd flipped it open to find a text message from my Raul.

"I can't talk right now, sorry. I'll call you in the morning."

Instinctively, I dialled his number. When I heard it ring, my grip tightened and I sat down whispering, "Pick up, pick up, Raul please pick up!"

As the uninterrupted ringing continued, my eyes began to moisten.
