I remember watching Calum and the boys leave the airport for their first tour ever. They were opening for One Direction on their Take Me Home tour in 2013.

I was beyond proud of my boys.

I grew up with them, how could I not be proud?

We all grew up in a small neighborhood, just a short drive from the heart of Sydney. Calum and I were neighbors. Luke, Mikey, and Ash all lived just a few houses down. We were always super close, to say the least. There wasn't a day that went by when we didn't hang out. We all went to the same school together, up until high school.

That's when the boys formed their group. 5 Seconds of Summer.

It started off as a cute little hobby, until they all progressively became more serious about it. They started performing at school talent shows, events, and created videos to post online. Once they started getting lots of views, it all started to become a real thing.

I was very supportive of my boys. I wanted them to live their dream.

Until their dreams stopped including me.

So back to the first sentence, I remember watching Calum and the boys leave the airport for their first tour ever. Opening for One Direction on their Take Me Home tour in 2013.

That was the last time I felt like I was in touch with the real boys of 5 Seconds of Summer.

But, now it feels like we're as close as strangers.
