Chapter 46; I Heard Everything

**Katie's POV**

"It is so not what it looks like!" I yelled the typical thing everyone says when they're caught.

"Whatever" Luke said under his breathe charging toward and pulling Hayes outside. I followed them and saw Luke throw the first punch. Hayes fell to the ground. "What the hell man?! I trusted you! You are my BEST FRIEND and now you go and try to kiss her?"

Hayes struggled to get back up. "Asshole!" He yelled and shoved Luke down, he fell and hit the ground pretty hard. "I wasn't going to kiss her! And your throwing punches at me when you haven't been here this whole week! You weren't even there to support Katie and comfort her when she needed it the most! Me, it was me who was there for her! Not you!" Hayes climbed on top of him and punched him repeatedly.

I panicked and ran down and pulled Hayes off of Luke. "Leave! Just.. Just leave!" I pushed Luke back twice, crying. He had guilt and sympathy in his face, his cheeks getting puffy.

**Hayes' POV**

She looked at me and I saw the tear stains and the new tears, like scars. She looked back at him and he slowly came toward her to hug her but she pushed him away and ran down the street.

Luke threw his hands in the air and left. He just gave up. Didn't even run after her.

I walked back inside and looked into the mirror, blood was dripping from my lip. I wiped it off and texted Katie.

"Where are you"

Then her phone buzzed from the coffee table. "Well shit"

I walked outside and started running down the street she ran down. "Katie!" "Katie!" I repeatedly yelled.

After an hour, I started to give up. I was near the woods and needed to take a break, I found a broken branch to sit on. After a few minutes I heard a shrilling scream coming from the woods.

I jumped up and started towards deep, wild world. I heard it again and a "help" "Katie?!" "Help me!!" "Katie!" It was quiet for a second then I heard "Hayes! Follow my voice!" I ran and ran until I found her lying on the ground with a branch on top of her.

"Oh my god, Katie" I shouted. She grunted trying to remove the large branch. I pulled it off of her and threw it to the side, then helped her up. "What happened?" I asked "are you hurt?"

"I was trying to go to the tree and then the branch fell onto me" "wh.. What tree" I asked. "It's my private tree, I carve into it, it's like a diary" I sighed then pulled her in for a tight hug.

We were walking back in silence until Katie broke it "so were you going to kiss me" I sighed "I was going to kiss your cheek, just to see if I could make you smile" "out of all the things you were going to kiss me?"

"Well if I told you a joke, you'd probably burst into tears" she shook her head "no, I've been numb. The only reason I ever cried is because I was scared of what would happen, like, I don't want to go to therapy cause I feel like you guys think I'm crazy"

I stopped and she stopped also, "I would never think your crazy.. I'm so sorry Katie"

She kept walking forward, and I walked with her. "Your getting a black eye" she said. "Ehh, I'm probably not as ugly as Luke right now" at this point we were back in my front yard. "That's not funny Hayes! You guys scared me so much, you know I can't choose between you two!"

Alright, now I'm really annoyed. I know she would choose Luke over me. I felt my nostrils flare and then it just burst out of me.

"No, you would choose Luke, you know you would. Even though I was the only one here for you, has he ever supported you? Held you when you cried? No! It was always me. And it pisses me off that you always side with him. I remember that day when we danced at your old house. That was the best day ever, even though Chelsea hated you. But I loved that day because of you, and even though I was dating Chelsea, I would have chose you over her any day! But now, I don't even know because I feel betrayed that after every time you always go back to him. Always!"

She looked at me in disbelief and stomped in the door, slamming it shut not hesitating to look back.

I walked in the door slowly and saw mom holding her hips and tapping her foot. "The whole neighborhood can hear you Benjamin Hayes Grier" "I'm sorry" I said quietly.

She focused in on my face and quickly walked over and squished my swollen cheeks. "Ow!" "What the hell happened to you?!" She screamed. "Luke and I got in a fight earlier, but I kicked his ass"

"Language" she says lowering her tone, she pulled me into the kitchen and had me take a seat, getting a wash cloth and putting it under water. "Your lip is bleeding like crazy" she said patting the cloth on my swollen bottom lip.

"Mom.." "Yes?" She says concentrating on making me look not so gross' "do you think she'll forgive me?" She sighed for a second.

"Honey, I can tell that you really care for her. But what you said was really harsh, especially after what happened last week, I think you could have handled it better" "I know, but she keeps going to back to Luke when he's never done a thing for her" "just give her some space and see how it goes. And apologize. "

I just wanted to cry, in all of this, I am ending up hurt also. It stings kneeing that I can't embrace Katie every night and kiss her goodnight, I shouldn't be feeling this way, but I can't help it. I've basically loved her ever since I laid my eyes on her. I just don't know how long I will be able to hide it, earlier today I was actually going to kiss her.

I know it would have been bad for Chelsea but we've been distant lately, like she doesn't love me anymore either.

After a few hours passed, I walked upstairs to my bedroom to see Katie not there, I then started to walk down the hall when Nash came out of his room. "You really messed up man, I know how you feel. I heard everything. But you really messed up, she's in my room. Be careful, okay? She's really sensitive right now" then he walked away to downstairs.

I slowly made my way into the room and saw Katie laying facing the opposite way, she looked so beautiful laying there, I could feel my heartbeat getting faster and faster to the point where. It was going to pop out of my chest and flop around on the floor.

I sat on the edge of the bed and looked over at her, she was asleep. I walked over to her side and crouched down. At this point I was basically in tears seeing how she had been crying. "I'm sorry". I sniffles.

"I'm sorry any of this happened, I wish I could go back in time and change things. I wish it could have been different, like.. I wish it was me you had kissed, me who held their arm around you. I wish I could be yours, and you could be mine.. I love you Katie, but you'll never know that because I'm just a screw up." I then kissed her forehead and wiped away one of the tears.

Then walked to my room and went to bed.

**Katie's POV**

I heard everything.
