Forgotten

Jungkook looked at his surroundings as he reminisced about the past. It's a bittersweet feeling being back. He didn't think he would return this soon but his father's passing didn't leave him much choice. His mom needs help with the business so he came home.

His family has lived in this small town by the lake since he was five. They owned and operated a summer camp for kids as well as an ice-skating rink. The rink was home to Yejin, a world-renowned figure skating coach who is also his mom's best friend. World-class skaters come here to train with her. She was one of them.

Kim Y/N is a very talented pairs skater training for the Olympics. Jungkook was fifteen when he met the girl who would become his first girlfriend. He happened to be at Yejin's house when she first arrived. Jungkook was asked to show her around and that's how they became friends.

A small crush started within Jungkook that first day and it blossomed as the weeks went on. Unaware of her feelings towards him, Jungkook kept this to himself because he feared rejection.

It was actually Y/N who confessed her feelings and asked him out first. They went horseback riding on their first date because she'd always wanted to go. One date led to many and before long, Jungkook asked her to be his girlfriend.

In their three years together, they shared a lot of firsts. He loved watching her skate even though he was often jealous of her partner Jackson because of how close they are when skating. He grew used to it eventually, but he didn't much like it. Jungkook and Y/N were crazy in love and nothing could separate them it seemed. That is until the day it happened.

Their world turned upside down when Y/N had an accident during practice. While executing a dangerous spin lift, Jackson's skate caught on the ice causing him to fall and drop Y/N. She hit her head so hard that she was knocked unconscious. Y/N was airlifted to a larger hospital due to high probability of brain trauma. Jungkook, Jackson and Yejin had to follow behind by car and drive the two hours to the hospital. It was an agonizing car ride, not knowing her condition.

When the three arrived at the hospital, she was still unconscious. Her brain scan showed a severe concussion and significant brain swelling. She was placed in a medically induced coma to allow the swelling to go down. Doctors warned them about the possibility of amnesia after she wakes up. Her parents were notified and they arrived the next day after flying in from their home.

She was in this state for several weeks. Jungkook was at her side every day talking to her and praying for her recovery. Finally, the swelling was gone and it was time to wake her. She was surrounded by her parents, Yejin, Jackson, Jungkook and his parents. All hoping for the best. There was a small risk that she wouldn't wake up at all so after a suspenseful few minutes, Y/N finally opened her eyes.

"Y/N babe, you're finally awake." Jungkook said excitedly. Her eyes travel to him then down to their linked hands. He places a soft kiss on the back of hers. She frowns and her eyes narrow at him.

"Um, I'm sorry, but do I know you?" Y/N pulls her hand away. She looks at him and then at her parents."Mom, Dad, who are all these people?"

As it turns out, Y/N did have amnesia. She can't remember much of the last four years. Her last memories are from before Yejin became her coach. The doctors said that some memories may return over time but others could be lost forever. Jungkook was crushed.

She stayed at that hospital for another week before they transferred her to a hospital closer to her parent's.They promised to call Jungkook if she regains her memory of him. They also said he could call to check on her whenever he wanted. But they asked that he not visit for a while because they didn't want her to stress about things she can't remember. That was the last time he saw her in person.
