You roll onto your side, attempting to make yourself comfortable in your fluffy bed sheets. You put a warm hand on the window next to your bed frame, slightly gasping as the cold glass cooled your s/t skin. It was around 2:00 am, and you hadn't been able to sleep at all. Your eyelids felt heavy, but every time you closed them, it just made you feel more awake. Your mind kept going back to earlier in the day when your new friend Monoma had easily killed the man who had attacked you.
You had spent most of the night letting the fact that you saw Monoma kill someone right in front of you sink in. During that moment, you had been so full of adrenaline that it didn't bother you, but now that you were sober, everything hit you and it made you realize how scared you were of him. If he was able to dispose of your attacker's body with such ease, what else was he capable of? What if he decided it was best to rid of you to make sure you kept your mouth shut?
You had so many questions for him, and they were keeping you awake. You kept regretting not asking for his phone number while you had the chance, but your lack of social interaction over the years has left you not being able to talk to people like a normal person. One thought kept repeating in your mind between questions you wanted to ask Monoma.
"If I had gotten his number, I would have been able to sleep"
You blamed this sleepless night on your socially awkward self and the fact that you kept overthinking things. It had been like this since forever, overthinking things, being intimidated by everyone, you had grown used to it. To you, this was normal. Your parents leaving for so long certainly didn't help either.
Your mind flitted over to your younger sister, Aika. Now that you thought about it, you were each other's guardians in away. You had always looked out for her, and she looked out for you. Maybe the reason you got along so well is that you were only a year apart. Sure she annoyed you from time to time, but that's just what siblings do. You thought of Aika as more of a close friend than a sister. Being tired of all of your useless thoughts, you pulled your f/c comforter off of your body and stumbled through your darkroom, toes gripping your comfy shag rug as you walked.
Your s/t hands felt for the door nob, pushing it open with the force of your tired body. You hurried down the dark hallway to your sister's room, keeping your left hand on the wall for guidance. You stopped in front of Aika's room, reaching out your hand to knock on the door.
'Knock knock knock'
You heard a small startled noise come from Aika followed by "who is it?".
"It's me, Y/n"
You heard shuffling from inside of the room when your sister cracked open the door to see if it was really you. She opened it all the way once she confirmed your face, rubbing her eyes tiredly. You and your sister looked a lot alike. Although you weren't twins, most people thought you were, with both of your h/l h/c heads of hair, e/c eyes, and similar facial features.
Aika looked up at you with large eyes, h/c bangs covering them slightly. "What is it?" she said with a questioning tone. You nodded, looking away out of embarrassment. Even if she was your little sister, you still sometimes felt awkward around her.
"Do you mind if I sleep with you for the rest of the night? I don't feel tired". Your head bobbed as you spoke, your muscles sore from something. Aika looked a bit surprised for a moment but soon stepped aside to allow you in.
"Oh, uh, yeah sure." She nodded, shutting the door behind you as you entered. You crawled into her bed, face smothered in the pillows. Your sister was always comforting to be around. Something about her presence always seemed to calm you. She sat beside you, pulling the blankets over her shoulders. "What's wrong? You never ask to sleep with me anymore."
You turned your head so you could breathe. Your cheeks rested on her floral pillowcase, your face drooping. "Nothing really" you lied. "I was just thinking about stuff." You hugged yourself, curling into a warm ball.
Aika lay on her back, her vivid eyes staring at her starry ceiling. "What kinda stuff?" She blinked, her eyes clearly growing more and more tired. She was always a good listener, but you couldn't tell her about what you had seen. If Monoma found out you had told Aika, that could put her in danger, and that was the last thing you wanted.
You quickly decided to change the subject before she pressured you into cracking. You turned to her, poking her in her cheek. "You don't need to worry about me so much ya know, I'm the older one here anyhow." You laughed, but she just looked at you with a blank expression.
Your face fell, and you opened your lips to speak again. "Hey, what's with the sudden seriousness?" You asked, slightly concerned. She blinked again, then smiled. "Oh, was I making the face again? Sorry, I'll let you sleep." She turned over again, and the room went silent, but she soon spoke once more. "You better tell me in the morning, got it?"
You smiled. "Yeah yeah, whatever dork." You looked up, finally feeling like you could go to sleep. You shut your eyes, but another thought came up.
You had never thanked Aika for everything she's done for you.
Would it be weird if you thanked her now? You looked back to her, patting her back o see if she was awake. When she mumbled out a "what is it?" you spoke.
"Thanks, Aika."
She slowly spoke. "What do you mean?".
You smiled and shook your head remembering she couldn't hear your thoughts. "Nothing, just, thank you."
