Chapter 22

Third person p.o.v:

Dev parked his car on the road opposite to Jay’s house.  He was about to get out of his car, when the front door of the house opened and  Mr. Vishal was carrying Anu in his arms. His wife was right behind him. After a few seconds Jay came out running along with Swetha. Anu’s parents got into the back seat and held Anu in between them. Swetha got in front and Jay sped off the car.

They rushed to the hospital and admitted Anu in the hospital. Mr. Vishal sat in the waiting room holding his wife. Jay was sitting opposite to them. Swetha came and sat beside him holding his arm.

“Jay!”, Swetha said looking at her brother.

“Yeah”, his voice was tired.

“Everything feels so weird. It’s usually me getting checked up by the doctors and Anu waiting for me. But now waiting for her while she is being treated, I really don’t know how to digest it. There was blood on the floor, not much but I am worried for her.”

Jay held Swetha closer to him, “She is going to be fine Swetha.” ‘She will be fine.’

Soon the doctor came out of the room.

“There is nothing to worry about. Her head hit the ground hard and she lost some blood. She needs to take some rest. She seems to be in some sort of shock, so I advise you not to tell her any disturbing news. You can take her home tomorrow evening and till then she will be in observation.”

Everyone nodded and the doctor left.

“Trisha was shouting about Anu being adopted when we heard the thud. May be Anu heard it and that’s why she was shocked.”, Mr. Vishal spoke his voice filled with sorrow.

“Well then it’s better we won’t go to her room now.” Jay said to his uncle and turned towards Swetha. “Hey, now you are the only who can take care of Anu. Will you keep an eye on her till I get Karan over here to help you?”

Swetha immediately stood up and nodded. “I will take care of her. Don’t worry about her. It’s ok mom. You and dad can head back home. I finally got the chance to take care of my second mother.”

With that she went into the room. Anu was lying on the bed in blue hospital gown and a nurse was checking on her.

“She was sedated to let her calm down. She would be up in a couple of hours.” The nurse told Swetha and she simply nodded. She pulled the stool to her bed and sat there looking at Anu.

Jay’s p.o.v:

Swetha stayed back at hospital to take care of Anu. We all came back home. Uncle sat silently on sofa while aunt was silently sobbing beside him.

“Uncle, I can’t see Anu like this. I need to tell her truth.”

“Don’t take decisions in haste like your father, Jay. You know the consequences of your decision. I think it’s better to wait till her birthday.”

I know what uncle said is right but I can’t see her feeling hurt. So I stood up and took my car keys.

“Where are you going, Jay?”, my aunt’s voice was barely audible.

“To deal with the consequences.”

I got out of the house and took out my phone to call Karan.

“Hi Jay.”

“Karan, I need you to do few things for me.”

“Sure.Tell me.”

“First go to Dev. He was at my house an hour back. I want you to find out why. Next go to the hospital and be with Swetha and Anu.”

“Anu? What happened? Is she alright?” , his voice was so tensed.

“Cool down, she is fine. Nothing to worry. She is just stressed out by the latest events. That’s it.”

“Why don’t you go talk to Dev, while I go and be with Anu?”

“ No I can’t go to Dev because unlike you I would beat him to death and also I need to go somewhere else. I will be back by tomorrow.”

“Okay, Jay. I will do it. Don’t worry.”

Soon I hung up the call and left to the airport. ‘I will sort out everything as fast as I could Anu. I will tell you everything.’

Karan’s p.o.v:

As soon as Jay hung up, I called Dev and told him to meet me at our spot.

By the time I reached there, he was already waiting for me. 

“Hey. Jay said you went to his house. Why? What is the matter?”

“I went to tell him about everything that happened. About Trisha, Anu and everything.”

“Well, he is not in a mood to meet you right now and if you want to tell him something, you can tell me.” I am trying so hard to control my anger. All I could think is about hitting him again and again.

“Yeah, I understood it when I went to his house in the morning. You also need to know this, Karan. Trisha and I, we met through a common friend, Meena, at a party at Meena’s place. Trisha stayed with Meena for almost a week. Being neighbours with Meena meant I could see Trisha daily and we started to hang out. Soon we found that we both knew Jay. She told me about her childhood, her pain and everything. I always wanted to help her but didn’t know how. Soon we fell in love and it increased my desire to help her.”

He paused for a moment, framing his words properly. “A few months back, when they decided to move here, Trisha informed me about it. We acted like strangers in college, so that we won’t hurt Jay. Soon Trisha and Meena came up with a plan to hurt Anu. I tried to talk them out of it but somehow it felt right in the end. So I went on with the plan. I did everything for love, Karan.”

I was getting furious but listened to his words and started to see the things from his prospective.

“I thought of sharing our plan with you. But when I noticed your concern and  how much you were worried for Anu, when she skipped the classes, I understood you love her. But still I stayed with the plan as Jay doesn’t care about Anu and you wouldn’t be with Anu if it hurts Jay.  I thought once Trisha gets her revenge, Jay and you would accept our love and we will be happy.”

“But Jay caring about Anu was a shocker and your plan failed. You lost us.” I spoke looking at him.

He simply nodded.

“I get it you did everything for your love, Dev but you ended up breaking our friendship.” I let out a deep breadth. “If you are done I need to go.”

I got on to my bike and left for the hospital.

‘ Dev’s love for Trisha made him break a girl’s heart without any regret. Things we do for love.’
