"Is this seat taken?" an Australian accent asks.
I feel warmth next to me. Josh and Jennifer kindly greet Liam and tell him to sit with us and talk, despite the pleading look I give them. "You look great Vivianne," he says as he sits, "you too Jen." he adds. I can tell that he only included Jennifer so that it wouldn't be so blatantly obvious that he was only paying attention to me. By the smirks on their faces, Josh and Jen noticed this too, so I give them my best warning look and then thank him flirtatiously.
The four of us chat for a little bit. My beer comes, but I don't actually want it so I give it to Liam and order wine inside. I inform them that I've never been too big on drinking, not even in high school because honestly, the thought of waking up in a strange place with a killer headache doesn't sound like much fun to me. What's fun if you can't remember it anyway? If I must drink though, I get fruity drinks or wine. Hard liquor is too rough on me. Eventually, Jen and Josh decide to go dance. I wouldn't tell, but I think Josh is crushing on her.
"So if you grew up in Massachusetts, what brought you here?" Liam asks, carrying on the conversation from earlier. I sip my wine, crinkling my nose as it slides down my throat and turn my body toward him to engage more into our conversation. "Actually, I had absolutely no intention of acting. Straight out of college, I was hired to do hair and makeup for a motion picture and after that every movie, every TV show, every commercial wanted me to be their makeup artist.
"So I've been traveling ever since. Came in today just expecting to do makeup, but Gary tells me that one of the actresses got pneumonia and I have the perfect personality to play Clove... so here I am."
"Wow, that's—"
"Lucky, I know." I trail off. "So what's your story, Hemsworth?"
He chuckles, thinking for a moment. "Well let's see... I was born in Australia, I have two brothers, surfing is my favorite thing to do besides acting, I auditioned for Gale as an attempt to get my name out there, but I never thought in a million years that I would actually get it." he shrugs. He's about to keep going but I instinctively reach out and touch his hand, cutting him short. It's warm and rough but smooth all at once.
"Liam, you're such a talented actor." I seriously say. "Don't you ever think for a second that you aren't."
His cheeks redden just enough so that it's noticeable in the dim lighting. I smile at the fact that I can make him blush. "What else?" I ask without taking my hand off of his. His eyes look into mine and I find myself getting lost in them. How can his eyes be more perfect than all of the aspects of me put together? As soon as he begins to answer, he's cut off.
"Hey guys!"
Jen and Josh are back. I remove my hand from Liam's and break our eye contact. I start staring at the table as if it was just as blue. My cheeks feel hot and I know I'm blushing. "Hey, how was dancing?" I change the subject before it even comes up when I see the smirks on their faces. "It was fun. You guys should go check it out." Jen answers. She shoots me a wink when Liam isn't looking, and I roll my eyes.
"I think I will. Vivianne, do you want to dance?"
"Why not?" I shrug.
He takes my hand and I stand. As we walk toward the dance floor, Josh hands me a shot glass of clear liquid and mouths, "Loosen up." I take the shot and swallow it quickly, wincing because it burns as it slides slowly down my throat. I sit the empty glass on a different, random table just before we reach the dance floor. I can feel the buzz cursing through my veins in an instant. Everything feels louder and more detailed, the beat of the music vibrates in my ears.
I start dancing right away, feeling so much more carefree and alive with alcohol coursing through my veins. Without even thinking like I usually would, I turn around so that my back is pressing to Liam's front. His hands grab my waist and pull me closer when I let my butt push and grind against him. I know that I wouldn't be doing anything like this without the alcohol in my system right now, but I couldn't care less. I can feel heat rising between us and I love how it feels. It feels like the world has stopped spinning, the music has stopped playing and now it's only us and the sound of our own breathing.
I realize how badly I want to kiss him.
