Winter *Ashton Irwin*

Chapter Five

Winter

        Winter followed the boys into the surprisingly small corner office belonging to Allison's father. Winter and Ashton sat in the two chairs opposite the chief, while Calum and Michael stood behind them.

"Hello, I'm Police Chief Schamer, Allison's father." The man smiled and shook hands with each of the group as they introduced themselves. "So my daughter tells me that you two wanted to report a crime?" Cheif Schamer said, directing his question at Winter and Ashton.

"Yes," Winter answered "we're here to report a murder, and an attempted murder."

"Okay. I'm going to ask you some questions, and you have to asnwer them truthfully. Do you agree to cooperate?"

Winter and Ashton both agreed, and Chief Shcamer started to ask them questions.

Ashton

        "Chief Schamer, with all due respect, it's been two hours. My story is not changing and I've told you everything I know. Can we please go home now?" Ashton asked impatiently.

"Fine. Just tell me one more time Ashton and Winter, exactly what happened that night."

Winter spoke first. "I was leaving the bank where I work, and was walking back to my appartment. I had worked late and was in a hurry to get home, so I decided to take a shortcut through an alleyway. I had taken the shortcut a few times before and it had never given me any trouble. However, as soon as I entered the alley, I heard screams and rushed to see what was going on, ready to call 9-1-1. When i arrived at the scene, there was a man clutching a knife, and a victim face down on the floor, clearly dead. The man with the knife (the murderer), began to accost me and I tried to run away, but he was too fast. He drove the knife into my stomach and left me for dead, running away. I could feel myself losing blood and lay there waiting to die, until I heard footsteps from down the alleyway and saw a boy running towards me. The boy introduced himself as Ashton, but that's all I got before I passed out. I woke up the next day in a hospital."

"Alright." said Chief Schamer. "This was around what time Ashton?"

"I already told you that I left my hotel at 2:00am because I couldn't sleep. I wandered around the city for a while before I decided to take an alternate route through an alley. That's where I found Winter, almost dead. I did the best I could to take care of her before carrying her to the hospital. I went back to the scene after Winter was safe in the hospital to look for evidence, but found the body gone. Disappointed, I went back to the hotel. i arrived back around 6:00am and went back to visit Winter in the hospital around 9:00am. Can we go home now? I've got a fourteen hour flight ahead of me."

"About that," Cheif Schamer said, "You're not permitted to leave New York until the investigation is complete. Either we find someone guilty or the case goes cold. Either way, only then will you be allowed to leave."

"You've got to be kidding me!" exclaimed Ashton "We've got a tour to finish! Fans have paid money to see us perform and we can't just cancel."

"Well Mr. Irwin, that's really too bad. But, if you refuse to remain in New York, that would mean that you are refusing to cooperate with the investigation which can lead to punnishment."

"Ashton," Calum said, speaking for the first time since they enetered the room. "maybe it's best that we cancel the rest of the tour, the fans can get their money back."

"Yeah," agreed Michael. "I'd rather not see you get into trouble buddy."

Winter put a consoling hand on Ashton's arm which made him feel slightly better. "Alright," he sighed "we'll stay."

"Perfect. You can go now."

Ashton followed the others out of the office, disappointed and angry. Calum walked beside him, trying to cheer him up. "Think of it this way, now we get to have a vacation in New York!"

Ashton couldn't help but smile at his friend's attempt to cheer him up. "I just hope Luke isn't to disappointed."

Michael turned around from up ahead where he was walking "Somehow, I don't think he'll mind." he nodded his head down the hall, gesturing for Ashton to look at Luke.

Luke was now leaning across the desk, talking animatedly with Allison as she smiled and laughed at something he had said. Winter smiled at them before approaching. Ashton and Calum hurried to catch up to the others.

"You guys are staying in New York? That's great, I'll have to give you guys a tour of the city one day!" Allison said excitedly.

"Yeah that would be amazing!" Luke smiled at her.

"Ew go flirt somewhere else, you're ruining my appetitie." Michael said, earning a playful smack from Winter.

"I finish up here about 7:00 tonight, why don't we all do something after?" Allison suggested

"I'm in." said Luke, smiling.

Ashton caughed from behind them. "Can we go now? I'm already angry enough let's just go disappoint our fans."

"Oh come on buddy, lighten up." said Calum, and Ashton glared at him. Without another word, Luke, Ashton, Calum, Michael and Winter left the police station.
