Chapter 33 (Part 2)

"Emma, it's going to be ok," I say, putting my hand on her arm.

"Forget it. Can we just leave?" Emma says

We all nod and we begin to walk to the dorms, passing Liam. When we walk by I stop by him, pushing his shoulder with my hand slightly and says "Screw you, you piece of crap".

He's taken off guard and says "What?"

"Emma saw you. With her" I say pointing to the girl "Do you think that it's okay to do that?"

"Oh my god. She saw?" Liam says, putting his head in his hand

"Yes! She did!" I say "and you know what the sad part is?" I say. He looks up at me sadly. "She wasn't even surprised that it happened."

I begin to walk away and Liam grabs my arm and says "Rose I-"

"Don't touch me," I say jerking my arm away. Jake holds my hand and we continue walking back to the dorms together.

"He is such a jerk," Jake says

"I know. I can't believe there was a time I even liked him." I say

"What do you mean by liked him?" Jake says stopping

I turn to face him and say "I think there was a time I even thought about dating him"

Jake looks down and I wish I never said anything.

"Then what happened" Jake whispers, still looking down.

I touch his cheek softly. "I wanted you more," I say

Jake smiles and after a few seconds of silence he says "I love you, Rose"

That takes me off guard.

"What?" I ask

"I love you," Jake says again. His eyebrows furrow "Is something wrong"

I smile and say "No one's ever told me that before".

Jake smiles and looks down.

"I love you too," I say back. He smiles and looks at me. I now notice that there are hints of gold specks in his eyes, surrounded by brown.

I pull him into a hug and he wraps his arms around my waist tightly. I don't think I've ever felt this happy before.

"Come on, we should go see how Emma's doing," I say. We continue walking to the dorm together and even before we get inside we hear Emma saying "Guys I'm fine!".

We walk inside and Katherine is saying "Emma it's ok to be sad! I would be worried if you weren't"

"I can't be sad. Others have it worse than I do" Emma says

"Saying you can't be sad because others have it worse is like saying you can't be happy because others have it better," I say from the doorway.

Everyone turns to look at me.

"What?" I ask smiling

"Where did you hear that?" Jonathan asks

"I don't know. I just always thought about it. I guess the right words finally came now" (I did not actually make up that quote, I just thought it would be a good fit for this scene) I say

"Wow. That's actually really good" Katherine says

Just then Liam comes rushing in. "Em please listen I-" He begins to say

"Just don't Liam," Emma says blankly, folding some clothes

"I am so sorry," Liam says. I think he's even about to cry.
