Chapter 51

"How exactly are we going to get Peter?" Jack asks

"You say you need to talk to him privately, take him to the hallway I'll be waiting in, and then I can sneak up behind him and put a knife to his neck. Simple" I tell him in a monotone voice

"Yes. Very simple" Jake says, also in a monotone voice

"Do you want to get your girlfriend back?" I ask him

He looks at me and says "Let's go"

~Jake~

I see Peter standing in the pit with some friends, but he leaves for the chasm. I avoid going near him for now, so I can go talk to him when he gets there and then leads him to the hallway. We had to make sure Peter doesn't get too suspicious, so we couldn't just lure him into a hallway that's the farthest away. When he's by the chasm railing, talking to someone, I go to him.

"Hey Peter," I ask going up to him "Can I talk to you?". I try my hardest to remain calm, knowing this is the guy who got my girlfriend kicked out. Or, ex-girlfriend I should say.

"Sure, what do you want?" Peter says

"Privately," I tell him

He sighs and says "Fine"

I take him into the hallway Four is waiting in, and he follows. I make sure he's standing to where his back is to Four, so he doesn't see him come out.

"What do you want kid?" Peter says

Just then Four comes out quickly, and grabs Peter, putting a knife to his neck.

Peter chuckles and says "This is what you wanted to talk to me for"

I shrug my shoulders and he chuckles again. "What do you two want?" Peter asks

"We know you got my sister kicked out of Dauntless," Four says "Why?"

"Damn, my brother can't shut the hell up," Peter says

"No wonder you're related," I say

"Shut the hell up kid," Peter says

"Then answer the question," I tell him "Why'd you do it, Peter?"

"Because she was going to get my brothers kicked out," Peter says

"What?" Four asks

"Matthew and Liam were going to get kicked out of Dauntless. So I switched Rose and Deans ranks with Matthew's and Liam's" Peter tells us

"Rose was number one," I say softly

"Yeah" Peter sighs "and Dean was number four"

I sigh and Four says "Great, now you're going to tell that to Max"

"Wait what? I can't do that, I'll get kicked out" Peter says

"Not my problem," Four says "I'm only worried about my sister right now, not you"

"And If I don't?" Peter says

"We'll throw you in the chasm and mark it as a suicide" Four says "Do you got that?"

Peter sighs but says "Fine"

"Good, let's go" Four says.

We walk to Max's office, Four keeps a hand on Peters's arm to keep him from running away. We knock on Max's door, and he says to come in.

"Ah, you three. What can I do for you?" Max says, putting his hands together

"Peter here has something he would like to tell you," Four says

"Peter?" Max asks

"I edited the ranks," Peter says in a monotone voice

"What?" Max says, confused

"Rose and Dean were supposed to be 1st and 4th, not Liam and Matthew," Peter says

"How did you do this?" Max asks him

"I snuck into your office and altered it before the ranks were announced," Peter says softly

"And you're telling me this now, why?" Max asks

"We threatened him," I say normally

"Ah, okay," Max says "Well, now that we know this Liam and Matthew will have to exchange with Rose and Dean. Peter, you will be punished"

"Wait, won't I be exiled?" Peter asks surprised

"No, you're one of the top people in the weapons department, we can't exile you," Max says "But you will be punished severely"

Peter smiles but Max ruins his happiness by saying "Do not think this is an opportunity for you to act out Peter. You need us more than we need you, understand?"

"Yes sir," Peter says

"Good," Max responds "As for Rose and Dean... We will get them back in 2 days"

"2 days? Why not today, or tomorrow?" Four asks

"Well, we can't do today or tomorrow because we have events planned for both of these days," Max says

"Events?" I ask

"We're busy. It'll be in two days" Max says plainly "Now if you'll excuse me I have some work to finish"

We leave the room, and Peter goes the opposite way of Four and me.

"Well, at least it worked," I say to Four

"Yup. We're getting them back"
