Chapter 54

~Four~

Jake and I walk through the Dauntless compound to where the soldiers are waiting for us. On the way there Rose's friends, Katherine and Jess, stop to ask us where we're going.

"Didn't I tell you? We're going to get Rose and Dean back" Jake tells them

"What?! They're coming back?" Katherine asks

"Mhm," Jake says, smiling at them

"We're coming with you," Jess says "And we're bringing Emma"

"We already have enough soldiers with us, we can't take anymore," I tell them

"Okay, then swap 3 of them out for us," Jess says

"I don't know..." I say

"Oh, come on, you both know we're better than most of those people there." Katherine says gesturing "Oh look, Larry can't even hold the gun properly and Joseph has his vest on backward! And, Matt is doing god knows what"

I look over and see that she's right. "Fine," I tell them "You can come"

"Awesome" Jess says. We all walk over to the soldiers and tell Larry, Joseph, and Matt the change of plans. They take off their gear and give it to Jess and Katherine.

Before they leave I whisper "Learn to hold your gun and put on your vest properly. You're making me look bad in front of people who are 3 years younger than me. Matt, stop being stupid" I tell them. They look at me nervously and I say "What are you waiting for? Leave!". They then scatter away and I sigh. Soon after Emma comes with us

"Okay, everyone ready?" I ask. They all nod and we leave the compound, towards the train. When the train finally comes we hop on and head to the factionless warehouse.

At the Factionless Warehouse

We walk in and factionless swarm the building all over. They immediately part when they see us walk in, leaving a path from us to my mother. In the crowd, I see Dean as well, though he's turned the wrong way. Emma runs up to him and hugs him from behind.

"Emma? What are you doing here?!" Dean says surprised, holding her around her waist

"We're here to get you back," She tells him

"What?" He asks

"Dean, yours and Rose's scores were altered. You placed fourth" I tell him

"Oh my god," He says "Um, thank you"

I laugh and ask "Where's Rose?"

"She went to the pier," Evelyn says "Hello Tobias"

"Evelyn," I say "She's at the pier?"

"She is. You're here to take her back?" She asks

"Yes, the scores were altered," I tell her "We should be on our way to get her. Dean, get your stuff you're coming with us."

"Sure," He says, leaving in the other direction

When he's back we get ready to leave and an Erudite girl calls something out.

"How is this fair?! Rose and Dean get what they want, and we're stuck here?! That's not-" She begins to say

"Oh shut up Karen," Dean says (I'm sorry, I just had to include that) "Let's go guys"

"Wait, I'm coming with you," Evelyn says

"What?" I ask

"I have to see my daughter before she leaves, don't I?" Evelyn asks, rhetorically

"Of course," I tell her "Let's go"

"I'll be back everyone," She says to the factionless. They all nod and we head out towards Navy Pier. We hop on to the train, and I tell all the other soldiers they can head back to the compound since we're not going back to factionless. We then jump out when we're close to the pier, and the soldiers stay on the train on their way to the compound.

"Okay, come on guys," I say. We walk towards the pier, but then I see someone laying down in the grass. Rose.

"Oh, good she's not dead," Katherine says "That would be a long story to explain"

~Rose~

I get woken up by a few people standing around me. It takes me a while before realizing it's Dean, Katherine, Emma, Jess, Tobias, Mom... And Jake.

"Oh my god, you scared me," I say

Tobias laughs and says sorry, and I ask "What are you guys doing here?"

"We're here to take you back," Jake says

"Back? Back to Dauntless?" I ask

"Mhm," Jake says "You placed first Rose"

"Woah," I say "Okay, then" I get up, and mom pulls me into a hug.

"I'm gonna miss you," She says. I notice she's crying

"I'm gonna miss you too Mom," I say, hugging her back.

"I'm always here if you need me," She tells me

"I know you are mom," I say "I'll come back"

"Stay safe okay? Both of you" She says, looking at Tobias

He nods and she says "Okay, you guys go ahead now"

I smile at her and we all leave for the train back to Dauntless. We jump on, and Tobias gives everyone a look, leaving me and Jake on one side of the car and everyone else on the other. For some reason, I'm way more awkward then I should be, but I know I love him. I couldn't get over someone that quickly, especially not him.

I keep my head down and keep silent until he laughs a little and says "Rose, we have to say something"

"I know" I sigh, but still don't say anything

"I have to ask," He says "Did you use factionless as a way to break up?"

"What?" I ask "You think I wanted to leave you?"

"Did you?" He asks

"How could you ever think that?" I say, but it comes out more like a breath

He looks down and I say "Jake, I love you. That's never going to change. I would never leave you by choice" I tell him

He nods, smiling a little, and says "Looks like I own your brother 10 points"

"What?" I ask

Jake then says "Doesn't matter" before pulling me in to kiss me. I wrap my arms around his neck and when we pull away I smile and say "I missed you"

"I missed you too," He tells me

"Well," Tobias interrupts "Looks like you owe me ten points bud"

"Okay, what are you guys talking about?" I laugh

"Doesn't matter" They both say at the same time

"Okay then" I smile. I then go to Emma, Katherine, and Jess and hug them, glad to be back. Although, if I'm being honest, I never left.
