Emily's POV
(Four months after the accident)
"Ok, everyone ready?" Dad asked. We nodded. I looked next to me. Ben was paired with Thunder. Mark was with Secret. Brad with Speedy. Max with Quinn. John was with Jack. Tony was paired with Sheba. Ryan and Sam helped out. Ryan was with Midnight and Sam was with Sandy.
"Let's do this," I said. Dad opened the doors and people started walking in. We had a lot of kids from school helping us raise money. Our popular girls were doing face painting. Jock boys had a dunk tank. My gang and I were doing rides around the ring. The artist people had tie-dying. And you get the gist. The ranch was like a small carnival. I saw a little girl walk up to me. She looked awfully familiar. She was around the age of 6 or 7.
"Hi. Remember me?" She asked.
"I don't, but you do look familiar," I said.
"It's me, Emma. I rode Dusty at the carnival last year. Is it ok if I ride him again?" She said. That's where I knew her from.
"Sure," I replied. I helped her onto Dusty, and they started walking. I walked next to them.
"I'm sorry about what happened. My parents said that it was all over the news." Emma said.
"It's ok. Dusty and I are still having a hard time to recover. I lost a horse, he lost a mate. She was my first horse." I said. Emma nodded. Dusty stopped where we started and Emma got off of him. Dusty nudged her, and she hugged him.
"I hope you can raise enough money. I really want to ride here, once it's rebuilt." She said. I smiled.
"You should ride," I said. She hugged me and went off to an older man. Her dad probably.
"I'm guessing you might remember me?" I heard a boy asked from behind me. I turned around and see a boy around my age. He had dark black hair and blue eyes. Wait, wait, wait........I got nothing. I look to Dusty. He looked like he was thinking, then he gave up.
"We give up," I said. By we, I mean Dusty and I. The boy chuckled.
"I think this will." He said. He took my face and kissed me. I heard Mark whistle. Then it hit me. When the boy broke it he looked at me. He raised an eyebrow.
"Nick?" I questioned. He smiled.
"You do remember." He said. He mounted onto Dusty, and Dusty started walking. I walked next to them.
"Yes, Emily," Mark said. I kicked his leg. "Ow. I hate you." He said.
"Then I'll stop hiding you from Annie," I said. He had a scared look. I smiled and caught up with Nick and Dusty.
"I'm sorry about what happened." He said. I looked to the ground.
"I just want people to stop talking about it. I mean, what was the bad part was that it was before my birthday." I said. He nodded.
"When's your birthday?" He asked.
"Halloween," I replied. He nodded. Dusty came to a stop, and Nick got off of him.
"You know, a friend of mine has a barn that you could keep your horses there until you have the new barn rebuilt." He offered. The next little kid came and I helped them onto Dusty.
"Maybe we can talk about this another time. I'm not really ready to talk about this right now." I said. I then went to walk around the ring with the little kid and Dusty.
