MESSAGE NOTIFICATIONS FLOODED my phone the next morning. Almost everyone in our block groupchat was celebrating due to suspension of classes.
According to the news, typhoon Helen has entered Philippines last night.
Despite having no classes, I didn’t stay in bed any longer. After washing my face and brushing my teeth, I proceeded to my kitchen.
I toasted some bread on my oven toaster.
Instead of having my breakfast in the dining, my feet led me near the balcony. There, a coffee table sits near the sliding glass door.
The city that was flocked with people yesterday seemed like a deserted place today. Only the workers aren’t confined to the safety of their homes.
Mom called while I’m in the midst of breakfast. She told me the weather in La Union isn’t as bad here in the Metro, it was only gloomy there. Beef tapa paired with fried rice was their breakfast and hearing that made me miss home more.
“When will you coming home, anak? Your ate and kuya are also busy these days.”
I could hear the sadness in her voice. Now that all of us, her children, have moved out from the house, she said she’s missing us a lot.
“I’ll try this month, Mom.” Then I faked a sigh.
Our call ended after an hour. Mom has to go to our shops so we have to cut the line, while I need to prepare Snow’s food.
Maybe he was just forced to agree because I kept on pushing it? It doesn’t matter, I’m still glad he took in Snow even when he looked like he doesn’t know what to do with it.
When I handed over Snow to him last night, he tried not to panic but it showed with the way he moved.
