Today's the day, today's the day.
I sat on the floor looking through my belongings. what to take, what to leave. I had a backpack to pack, So I couldn't bring much. On the bright side, I didn't have much to worry about. I didn't have a lot of stuff to begin with. Finally, I decided on: Two T-shirts, Two pair of Jeans, Under clothes, Four pair of socks, My bathroom bag, and a brown throw blanket. I contemplated bringing my sweater. At the last minuet, I threw that in there too.
I Found a twenty euro bill at the bottom of My shirt drawer. Jackpot. Other than that, I was to bring the clothes I was wearing. I slipped on a pair of jeans, a dark gray T-shirt, and my brown lace-up boots. This time, I remembered the locket.
Leaving the Backpack in my room, I stepped out. School seamed to take fooor-eeev-eeer to end. In the halls, I saw Jamie carrying a backpack of his own. At the meal times, I saw him slip Whatever he could snag into it.
He would walk around the room and ask: 'Do you want that water?' Or 'May I have that apple?'. His courtesy was adorable for someone who wanted to start a life in the real world. He'd been here since he was, like, five, and didn't know much different. I frowned inwardly.
After classes, we both went to Jacob's room to break the news

"Jacob? We need to talk about something." I said. "come in." Came the reply. Jamie and I walked into the room. Jacob was sitting on his bed. He didn't try to hide the scars on his face this time. "Hi" He said shyly. "Hi!" Jamie was much more energetic. I closed the door. "I'll just come right out. We're running away tonight." I said blankly. "What?" Jacob sounded confused and worried. "Please. Don't tell me you want to stay." Jamie Commented dryly. "I...I can come?" Jacob said quietly. "Did you think we were ditching you?" I asked. Jacob studied his lap. "We care about ya dude." Jamie smiled. His smile was contagious, and I caught it. "Common, let's get you packed."
Jamie and I helped Jacob Stuff Various items into A small duffel bag we found in the donation box by the office. "When are we leaving?" Jacob asked. "At midnight." I answered. "won't I just slow you down?" "Do you want to stay? We aren't leaving you." I assured him. He smiled. A real, genuine, smile. '
The plan was for me and Jamie to wake up at twelve, I go to wake up Jacob and bring him to my room, and Jamie would meet us there. We would then slip out the window. It wasn't against the rules to be up early, and midnight did count as morning, so,.... we shouldn't have trouble if we get caught. we just needed an excuse.
Midnight came early, and tire sum. I woke groggily. I found myself once again questioning if this was really a good idea. It would be risky, we had nowhere to go, and on top of it all, I was tired. It would be so easy to just go back to sleep. So... much...safer too.
But, Jamie and Jacob were counting on me. It took effort, but I managed to drag myself out of bed. For them. For the only family I had left. I was DETERMINED. I wobbled on my feet. my head felt light. I braced myself against the side of the bed. After a moment, I steadied myself, and stripped off my night clothes. I slipped on a pair of jeans, a black T-shirt, my favorite boots, and a dark green hoodie. I then headed for Jacob's room.
I woke Jacob, and helped him carry his bag to my room. Just like the plan. He seemed just as, if not more, groggy than me. He held his comforter around his small frame as he stumbled down the stairs. I watched him like a hawk. Jamie was tiptoeing into my room when we got back. Jacob yawned. Jamie was carrying two backpacks. One, I presumed, contained his clothes and possessions. The other, was the same that held the things he had collected from the Cafeteria.
I threw my own bag over My shoulder, and took one last look at the room. I quickly piled everything on my bed, and wrote a note saying to donate the remainder of my things. Suddenly, there came a knock at the door. "What's going on in there?" Mr. Wilson
