The Great Betrayal

He stood up. Tried to find quite, peace and wanted to be alone. It was his father. He just sat there, too scared to face his own son. He stammered," I..i, you should understand. I can explain." Aiden darted," There's nothing left to explain. You are a criminal and have been lying to us. Why did you do it? Did you ever think about us?" He started pacing back and forth as if he was just going to explode. " You need to  understand that I did it for justice and us. Justice to your grandfather.",Mr Danforth tried to explain,"I know that you know about the injustice done to him while he was ruling. I saw him get destroyed. So I was seeking vengeance."

"I know what happened but do you know what happened later. He did get justice, but you didn't know because you weren't there with him. You had left the country because you didn't have the guts to bear the humiliation. If grandpa saw you right now he would be very disappointed. I read his diary and it said that you were a traitor and are the same now.You left him when he needed you, you are a betrayer." Aiden was shouting at this point.

"So what now?" Kassie asked softly not trying to make Aiden angrier. "I don't know. We are the saviours so we have to give justice, no matter how hard it can be." Aiden's father looked at him and stammered to find his words," Aiden ,my boy, you are going to turn me in. You can't I'm your father. You won't do that. Will you ?" He said as if he hadn't done anything. Aiden gave him a glance and said," You are a criminal and not my father. He is lost in the woods for me while you did a criminal act." He quickly armed himself with the knife and pointing it towards his father," You lied to me and to make it even I'm going to tell you a lie I told. Me and Jennifer had planned this against you. I knew all along that it was you who had done this. I went to their mansion and Jennifer told me that Owen had kidnapped the people and stranded them in the forest and one of them was you. You escaped. Then why didn't you tell Grandpa, why didn't you tell everyone what Owen had done. Why did you flee. Why?"

His father shouted," Because I hated him. Only I knew what he was like really. He ruined my childhood and made me like him,a ruthless and stone hearted man. So I fled from the country to live my life on my own terms. But that didn't last long. When he got to know where I was he threatened me that if I didn't come back then he would kill me." " So why are you doing this and kidnapping people? He is long gone. What good does it do to you?" Aiden asked a little puzzled." Because I didn't actually escape, Owen let me go. There are two sides of a story so listen to mine.But he asked for a favour. We were together on the same plan. To ruin your grandfathers life. He didn't lie only to us but a lot of people. He was the one who entered in alliance with our neighbouring country after the people banished him. He asked them to come at night with full troops and wage war. He is the traitor." Everything fell into place now.

Aiden felt his head and world in front of him spinning. He was out of words. He realised a lot of things in one simple moment. He felt he had left behind the world of fantasy and dreams and just dropped into reality. But the reality, the truth, hurt him like a knife through his heart. He felt betrayed. He felt his breath stop. Was it possible to feel so much in just fraction of a moment?" I know this a lot to take in but it is the only truth." His father tried to console him. Blaze and Kassandra were not able to speak. His best friend Aiden hadn't told them anything and they were standing there with their jaws dropping. " I'm sorry I couldn't tell you both. I wanted to go to the root of it and I neglected the fact that we were in this together. I hope you will forgive me." Aiden said while he sat on a log. " We are best friends we are going to forgive you but let us keep that aside for a moment and think about what are we going to do next." Blaze said.
