“Alynne, do you remember what you promised me?” My friend Maddy asked me as we got closer to the town’s lively hotspot.

“I don’t recall ever promising you anything,” I replied.

“Oh, sure you did,” She attempted to persuade me, and the more she tried, the less I believed her.

“Then what was this promise that I made you?” I asked, if the answer was even somewhat logical then I’d know that I did promise something to her as well as exactly what it was that I promised her, but if it just sounded made up then she was obviously lying to me.

“You promised me that you would do everything in your power to have fun,” She reminded, me starting to remember now.

“Oh, that’s right,” I recalled, now beginning to regret me having made that promise to her. A relationship that we both swore would last forever came to an end and was killed in a toxic fashion. It turns out that my, who is now, ex-boyfriend had been cheating on me for a consistent four months, and we had dated for nine. When the whole affair had started I don’t know, but I honestly couldn’t care less about who that lying bastard is fucking now. Now that we’re no longer together, I can’t help but wonder why the hell we were ever together. he was a conniving little twat and I hate myself for not having been able to see it until now.

“You know what?” Maddy said, me having no idea how to respond so I remained silent to allow her to finish her phrase. “You don’t have to promise me you’ll have a good time because I’ll make sure you do if it’s the last thing I do,” She finished, being rather dramatic.

"If you say so,” I muttered under my breath as we entered the club that was tonight’s “people packer”. I usually quite like coming out to the clubs and dancing in the crowds but today I would much rather have stayed home, eat carton after carton of Ben and Jerry’s Half Baked ice cream, and watch the same cheesy romantic comedy over and over again, taking in the perfection of the main characters’ relationships then come to the realisation that what’s in the movies is something unattainable and soon burst into tears knowing that someone like me would never have something like that.

No matter how much I would have loved to have done just that, I knew that as soon as maddy had caught wind of the news of the ugly split between Nico and myself, she’d never allow me to wallow in a pool of self pity, tears, and melted ice cream.

“You can’t let what that dickwad did to you effect you forever, and it’s best that you get that devil off your back sooner than later,” Maddy said. “Now, what would you like to drink?” She asked as we were inches away from the line of leather seated stools by the bar.

“No thanks,” I answered. “I think I’m just going to mingle in the crowd.”

“Okay then,” She replied, sitting down on a barstool and observing the eloquent display of liquor bottles.

As I was walking, my eyes were just about everywhere but where I was going. The bright neon lights were flashing everywhere and were so bright that they were blinding. the music was also blaring at a volume that was deafening. Somehow over the music, I heard the sound of something break then I went off balance. Great, the heel of my left shoe broke. Not coming as a big surprise, I immediately fell down to my knees and almost flat on my face. I can’t even explain how embarrassed I am right now.

I looked up to see a man standing over me. There was a look of concern on his face and his arm was outstretched in my direction. His skin appeared to be pale, his hair was an auburn color that was almost curly and he had glasses on that the only possible way to describe them was a happy Potter glasses, because that’s exactly what they looked like. There were also tattoos that seemed to cover up every square inch of visible skin with the exception of his face. Of all these characteristics that I noticed, there was only one that stood out and that I questioned.
