I think one characteristic of me that always showed is that I was never one to complain. I was never one to tell you what you were doing wrong and how I would do it. I would never correct you. I hate confronting people.
When I moved to the small town near LA, I never had the thought cross my mind that I would have to confront anybody. No one in this town seemed worthy of my uncomfortableness. That was, until I met Ashton Irwin.
Ashton was that boy who either was the most innocent and bubbly person, or he could kill you with a stare. My first impression of him was that he rolled his eyes a lot.
I bumped into the room, still gripping my only friend, Samantha's hand. We squeezed our way to the back of the house, ramming into raving bodies every second. The scent of alcohol and body odor blended together into an unnatural and repulsive stench.
"Where are we going again?" I yelled, hoping Samantha could hear me over the clutter of noise surrounding us.
"The backyard. That's where Calum told me to meet."
Samantha was great friends with Calum, and insisted on introducing me to him. Calum, of course, insisted on introducing us to his friends. That was the whole reason she dragged me along to this mess of a party. We finally made our way to the glass door that slid through the kitchen.
After shutting the door behind me, I took in the area. The back was very calm, especially compared to the madness indoors. There was a small huddle of people on the auburn deck, and that was about it.
A blonde headed boy peeped over the rest of the others. Even in the dark I could see his chocolates brown eyes.
"Calum's right there," Samantha motioned to the boy.
We walked over to them. Calum stepped to the side, giving us room to stand.
Calum nudged my shoulder. "Introduce yourselves," he whispered.
Samantha nodded, catching his mumble. "I'm Samantha." She looked over at me.
"I'm Melody," I said uneasily. I hated talking in front of people.
I felt that my voice was too squeaky, and no one would listen. It's not that I was raised without being listened to. That was just my mindset growing up. Nobody wanted to listen, so I didn't say anything about what I wanted to talk about.
"I'm Michael," another blonde piped up, raising one of his hands. The other held a beer.
The girl next to him smiled. "Hey, I'm Crystal."
These people seemed very nice, I was just nervous.
I flashed a smile back at her before a bleachy-blonde boy started talking. "My names Luke," he gave a weak wave.
"I'm Sierra," the woman beside him said.
There was one last person. "Ashton," the black haired man stared at me as he said his name.
This dude made me uneasy. Everyone looked very friendly, but Ashton just seemed angry or annoyed. He looked like he didn't want to be there.
Everyone started talking, including Samantha and I in the conversations.
"Hey Ash," Calum called. Ashton looked up. "Can you grab me another beer?"
Ashton rolled his eyes and turned around and headed to the cooler. When he came back he has two bottles in his hand. I figured he had grabbed one for himself as well. He handed one to Calum before picking up his old one from the table and sipping it. I guess it wasn't for him.
Ashton looked over at me and held out the drink. "You haven't had anything tonight, have you?" he asked slowly. I shook my head. Ashton cocked his head to the side and rolled his eyes again. "You don't drink?"
"No I do, I'm just not feeling it tonight," I muttered nervously.
Ashton rolled his eyes and handed me the drink. "You don't have to drink it all. I just feel bad if no one caters to you."
I took the bottle and twisted off the cap. I was lucky I didn't need a bottle opener for this certain one. I took a small sip of it as Ashton watched me intently.
Everyone continued their conversations around me, while Ashton and I silently stood awkwardly. I continued to slowly sip the beer, knowing I wouldn't finish it. It got to the point where I was sick of the drink, but I didn't want to be rude or make Ashton feel bad.
"You okay?" Ashton asked me.
I nodded with a weak smile. I took another repulsing sip of the burning liquid.
Ashton smirked. "You don't like it, do you?"
I shook my head. "It's not that I don't like it, it's just not my favorite. My head hurts and I don't know if that's just a coincidence or something."
Ashton came closer to me and took the beer. "You could have just put it down. I wouldn't have killed you," he giggled.
That giggle was the moment where I realized I never wanted to be away from him. He was nice yet intimidating. I wanted to get to know him more.
Ashton brought the back of his hand to my forehead. I raised one eyebrow. Why was he touching my head? I also noticed that his hands were kind of massive. I wondered what my small hands would look like against his.
"You are a bit warm," Ashton mumbled. "Do you feel faint?"
Truly, I felt like passing out. But I knew that wasn't the beer.
I shrugged. "I dunno."
I suddenly lost control of my feet and tripped over myself. I flew forward and landed on Ashton. My head was leaning against his chest awkwardly. Ashton had still attempted to catch me with two beers in his hands. I scurried back to my feet. The fabric of his sweater was very soft, I had noticed. He also was very warm, and the breeze outside made it chilly.
"You sure you okay?" Ashton laughed a bit at my clumsiness.
"No, not really," I admitted nervously.
Ashton giggled a bit and took a sip of my beer. "I told you that you wouldn't have to finish it."
