'Hey, Mads?'
The girl in question turned her head towards the poor excuse of a bed on the oposite wall, meeting her cellmate's blueish -green eyes. She hummed a small 'mhm' signaling her to continue.
'Why do you think they taught us earth skills?'
She pondered for a second. That's a good question. They weren't going anywhere near Earth. The planet was simmering in radiation, even after 97 years. and it needed another hundred years to become survivable again. The apocalypse really did a toll on the planet.
'I don't know, O. Who knows what the council thinks. Let me rephrase that. They don't think. Because they probably don't have brains. If they did, they wouldn't arrest childrn for simply being born, or protecting themselves, just to kill them at 18.'
Octavia let out a breathy laugh, shaking her head.
Octavia Blake. The first illegal child on the Ark in God knows how long. Her mother and brother kept her hidden for 16 years. Until her brother decided to take her to the Unity Day masquerade dance. That day she was found, thrown in the Sky Box, her mother was floated and who knows what happened to her brother.
The day Octavia entered Madison's cell, she knew she was going to somehow enjoy her time in prison, until her 18th birthday. Madison was shy at first, the girls only exchanging a couple words per day, but as the weeks passed, Madison came out of her shell.
'I still think your dad is gonna pull some strings and not float you.'
Madison brought her eyes to the boring grey ceiling above them and sighed.
'O, you do remember who my father is, right? The law is his life. I'm pretty sure he has a rule kink.'
The pretty brunette's laugh echoed around the room. 'Jesus, Mads.'
'What? It's probably true. I may be his daughter, but I'm still a citizen on the Ark. Rules apply to every-'
She didn't get to finish her sentence, as the heavy door was suddenly opened, two guards stepping in. The girls stood up in confusion, looking warily at eachother.
'Prisoner number 1-6-7 and 2-2-7 face the wall.' Octavia threw Madison a worried glance and the green eyed girl nodded subtly.
'What is going on?'
The guards ignored her and forcefully turned her body around to face the wall. She fought against them, fear running through her veins.
'I'm not doing anything until I speak with my father.'
One of the guards grabbed her right arm and tried to put some sort of metal bracelet around it. The girl ripped her hand out of the grip and stepped protectively in front of Octavia.
'No! I want to speak with my father!'
That's when he appeared. Marcus Kane, in all of his glory. He signaled to the guards to take Octavia away but the girl wouldn't leave without her friend.
