Even through his terrible grief, a tiny part of Skulduggery was glad that Ghastly died not knowing that Skulduggery was the one to kill his mother, even if he had been Lord Vile at the time. The thought of losing his best friend like that, after losing Valkyrie to Darquesse, made him glad Ghastly never found out, and it was one of the reasons that he made his peace with China - because deep inside he wanted to believe that Ghastly would have accepted his horrific act the same way.
