A few hours later.......
"Professor, may I come in?", Hermione asked after knocking the door to Snape's office.
No reply was returned.
She knocked again.
And again.
As she was turning to step back to wait, she collided with a big figure. Being merely a girl of around 18 then (adding the age she'd lived with the help of the time turner), she was obviously not as self controlling as the man she'd been knocked down by. Losing her balance, she was about to fall. But by Merlin's luck, a pair of strong arms wrapped around her from behind, perfectly saving her from the fall, and eventually making her be thankul of their owner. Hermione was breathing heavily. No sound came from her saviour. Though magic could have easily been used to break her fall, she only knew how much obliged she had become for that man. As a gesture of gratitude, she placed her right hand on the hands still wrapped around her front.
"Thank you so much! I don't know what could have happened. I could've lost my teeth and grow those bucked ones again. You always know where to find me."
She turned hoping the person to be either Harry or Ron. But instead she was face to face with Severus Snape.
She instantly tried to back away.
"Professor, I'm extremely sorry. I never could've imagined it would be you. I thought it would be one among the trio."
But the loop of arms didn't let go of her. She could only stare at his face.
Then as fast as he'd caught her, his hands went behind his back upon seeing a hint of sparkle in her eyes.
"Thoughts, Miss Granger, can betray one who doesn't know how to handle them. They may guide you to a utopia which you wouldn't want to leave or they may bring drastic situations. Think accordingly."
Hermione took in each of his words trying to decipher his meaning. Did he know???? He can't. Be...because she herself didn't know. But.... she did. Wait!!! It was complicated.
He went inside his office. Hermione stood still following him with her eyes.
"Miss Granger, what are you gaping at? Like what you see?"
Hermione's eyes widened, as if threatening to pop out of their sockets.
"Thoughts, Miss Granger, thoughts. As I said earlier.. don't ever let them overpower you. I don't expect such an act from a student like you whom I consider to have some brains. Fawning on someone!!"
"I wasn't fawning, Professor. I was merely..... too preoccupied to respond."
She said as she walked into the office."Then maybe you are not fit for the task I was going to assign you being preoccupied with your rubbish thoughts." His look was demanding.
"I'm sorry Professor. I'm here in detention and will strictly follow your instructions," uttered Hermione lowering her glance.
He got seated behind his desk and motioned for her to sit across him. Having taken out a quil and parchment he said, "You see, Miss Granger, I'm a man of my words. I don't consider walking around the school and sharing my interests with any pimp I see. Only a few I think to be sensible are the ones who get to see the other side of me. And, you being one of my best pupil, are one among them."
"Thank you, Professor," Hermione felt shy.
"Miss Granger, in order to be perfect, one has to strive for perfection discarding all fears. As your punishment, knowing how much of an insecure achiever you are, you are to write your deepest desire, your darkest secret with this quill. It is purposely magicked to let me know when you are lying," Snape was once again his snarky self.
Hermione couldn't understand.
"But why?"
"May I quote as you said a few moments ago? I'm here in detention and will strictly follow your instructions. Do as you are told. Tell me Miss Granger, your sins....."
Snape narrowed his eyes on Hermione's shaking frame.
Then he almost whispered, "I need to know."
