Severus thought he would flinch given that he was bitten by that atrocious snake over and over again, but he didn't. Yes, the blood was still there but all dried up. He helped himself to his feet after finding his wand that had earlier fallen on the floorboards of the Shrieking Shack.
The area was deserted. There was not a sound to be heard. He thought that it was night. Severus had no idea where was Lord Voldemort. Oh now he won't play the faithful servant part for which he had always been taken for granted by that evil scumbag with slits for a nose.
Very carefully, he made his way out of that shackled hut. The eerie ambience that surrounded him was in fact something he was used to be in but taken his circumstances, him returning from death, literally coming back to life once again, he was worried for some anonymous reason.
He saw no soul around. No sound. The grounds were empty with a little fire burning here and there that were probably caused by the Death Eaters. And oh yes! There were no bodies around.... so was the war over? Did everyone make it? Did everyone die?
That moment it striked Severus heart more than it did to his mind that what if.... what if....
What if....
Hermione too was....
Dead!
No! NOOOO!
Severus could hardly control thinking the adversities. He wouldn't have been given a second life if he had lost the reason to live, right? Nonetheless, his pace attained quickness.
Just... just for a moment he thought what if... she was really gone or something bad had happened to her, he would honestly end himself. Like not distance himself from everyone as he had done for so many years but end his life.
Silhouetted against the dark sky, he could make out the school's building. His heart was tending to beat faster even though he was constantly telling himself everything is going to be alright.
But still.... a tinge of pain did not leave. He was just a moment apart from coming to know whether the woman he had begun to love was alive or not.
Voices could be heard. Severus's heart jolted. Weeping sounds and wailings too. He was nearing the entrance to the Great Hall and could see the dots that had looked like debris from afar were in actual the bodies of the fallen beloved. Some had lost their friends, some had lost their family, some had lost their.... love.
He entered the Great Hall and desperately sweeped his eyes across the area. He couldn't see Hermione... anywhere.
From McGonagall to Filch.... every living entity was there.. but not her.
His heart sunk.
