Choice

The redhead advanced towards him. She was exactly the same as the last time he had seen her, the time when he had cradled her dead form in his arms. Those green eyes still held that compassion that he had fallen for, there was still love reflected in them. A love so strong, a love he had always fought for to achieve, a love not for him.

For a moment, Severus was overwhelmed. The only woman he had loved was standing before him. He got back on the platform and stood still, in silence. His eyes couldn't have imagined it all, right? There she was, before him, after so many long, painful years. Oh how much he had longed to take her in his arms, when she was alive.... to forget the horrendous past. To make things right.

"So you've come here too. I never wished to see you here soon, wished to see you but not so soon." Lily said looking at him with a small smile on her lips.

Oh no! He remembered the first time she had smiled for him. They were mere kids then and he had fallen so hard in love with her. The care he had for her as if she was a fragile piece of something extremely valuable was something he couldn't get out of his system for all those years. He would have died to get back the glance he thought he had always given her. Full of possession, care, tenderness and above all love. Love.... Hermione.... She loved him and he loved her back... though no one knew about it for he didn't have the habit of opening upto anyone given all the dark circumstances he had always been through, he cared for her above all.

After what seemed an eternity, Severus spoke.
"I never thought I'd get to see you again." Was his voice shaking??? No it mustn't have been.

"So I guess here we are.. together again.." Lily said looking straight into his onyx eyes. Severus thought when was the last time that they had ever been together!!! "We can finally have the life we couldn't... you can be with me this time... Stay here.." She extended an open hand towards him.

Severus was taken aback. After all those years, he'd finally get Lily to love him back. He kept looking from Lily's soft small hand to her eyes.

Severus was in a Catch-22. If he stayed, he could remain with his long lost love and abandon the one he had newly found...... and if he left for the real world, he could finally be with Hermione and leave the first love of his life behind. He had to make his choice.

At a little distance in the background, Severus saw Dumbledore smiling and giving him a nod. He instantly knew what he had to do.

He took Lily's hand in his.
