Soobin woke up in his hospital bed.

He looked around.

It was 9 in the morning. He couldn't feel his legs or anything.

There was a chart on the side table of the times he would be getting food and water. He already had breakfast, so he relaxed himself.

The room was brightly lit up by the sun and the window was open, letting in fresh air.

The boy exhaled, feeling the pain in his abdomen and head. He was tired and didn't look very well.

Suddenly, a memory of what happened yesterday flashed inside of Soobin's head. He had gotten hit by a car. Soobin didn't know what to do. The only thing on his mind was Huening Kai.

Surely he should've seen what happened to him on the road, right? Where could he be now? Praying that Soobin was alive? Soobin himself didn't know the answer.

All he wanted was to see Kai again.

To delicately kiss the fairy once more and to feed him cookies.

Soobin closed his eyes and laid his head back, trying to rest his mind until he heard someone call out his name.

It was Taehyun.

He raised his head as the small fairy fluttered over with something in his arms.

As Taehyun came closer, Soobin realized what was in his arms.

It was Kai.

His skin was pale but he had a peaceful expression. His wings had faded in colour and were bent and welted.

"Taehyun— what, what happened?" Soobin then began to panic. His eyebrows furrowed as he looked at the from expression on Taehyun's face.

"Please tell me that this is a prank, please Taehyun—" Soobin began to hyperventilate, cupping his hands around the lifeless fairy.

It then hit him.

Kai was gone.

Forever.

Soobin could feel his heart shatter into a million pieces as Taehyun looked up to speak again.

"I'm so sorry," tears welled in Taehyun's eyes.

"No, this has to be a dream— No, Huening Kai, Please, Oh god." The humans body began to shake.

"He's gone, Soobin. There wasn't anything any of us could do..." Taehyun looked down at the lifeless body of Kai.

"What happened to my baby?" Soobin looked at Taehyun. "How- how did this even happen in the first place?!" Giant, hot tears began to run down Soobin's face.

"The moment Kai found out that you got into that accident.. he... He stepped into action to save you." Taehyun looked up with guilty eyes as small tears rolled down his face.

Taehyun couldn't bring himself to tell Soobin after he got better, so it was a now or never situation because telling Soobin after would be too cruel.

"But h-how?! How did he die!?" Soobin gritted his teeth, the horrible pain of realization going through his body.

"He went into your heart. His soul is with you, Soobin." Taehyun looked down. "You should know how much you mean to Kai. He loves you more than anything in the world." Taehyun gently placed his hand on Soobin's.

"There's a curse that if a human and fairy fall in love, one of them gets cursed by a terrible fate. Kai thought he was the one but he was wrong. It was you. He felt so bad and guilty that he gave up his life because he loved you." Taehyun said, comforting the crying boy in front of him.

"You should've told me before.. maybe then I wouldn't have fallen in love with him so that's he'd be alive today..." Soobin let out pathetic and sad sobs.

"I'm so sorry, Soobin. It's not your fault." Taehyun looked away.

"It is. It's 100% my fault. He died because of me!" Soobin then burst into tears again, clenching his chest in the pain.

"I'm so pathetic," he cried. "I couldn't even tell him that I loved him and then he just vanished." Soobin sobbed even harder.

"Shh, shh. I'm sorry Soobin. The only thing we can do now is pray for him." Taehyun reassuringly said.

"I can't ever atone for this," Soobin softly said, picking up Kai's lifeless body.

He kissed the fairy's forehead before passing the body onto Taehyun.

"Just know that he's at peace, okay? I have to go.. I'm sorry. I'll come visit you sometimes, alright?" Taehyun gave Soobin a gentle but sad smile.

Soobin nodded, watching Taehyun fly out of the window.

As soon as Taehyun left, an indescribable amount of tears welled up in Soobin's eyes. Guilt kept on panging his heart. It was too overwhelming for him.

He instantly missed those silly little conversations, how Kai's wings would flutter in excitement, how he would feed Kai endless amounts of cookies and hoe Kai would nuzzle up to him.

He missed it all and the fact that Kai was gone because of him made the pain even worse.

It hurt as much as how Soobin had lost his mother.

He truly was the saddest and loneliest boy in the world. It was as if he broke.

First his mom, and now Kai.

He had nobody to love and nobody to love him back. It was all gone, taken away by this cruel fate.

Deep down, Soobin could feel Kai's soul resonate with in him and give him life.

He knew that death was the most natural law of the universe.

He just knew it, but he couldn't ever let go of a love so beautiful as Kai.

He clenched his chest once again, slowly inhaling and exhaling. He needed to calm himself down and find some peace.

At least he knew that Kai was at peace, right?

Pretty soon his tears dried up and he was back asleep. The next few weeks were going to be very painful for him, but luckily he had Beomgyu by his side.

Beomgyu has always been there and was Soobin's only friend. He was so loyal and kind-hearted. Soobin didn't know what he would do without Beomgyu.

But, what Soobin didn't realize was that someone else was watching him, and still is.

Someone who's been protecting him ever since he was a baby.

Someone who Soobin loves the absolute most.

It's Kai.
