Chapter 15
Earth felt weird.
I had visited earth many times, when I was with the devil. But never before had I felt a connection, or a real need to be there on earth in my past visits.
This time was so different. I knew I belonged here. Glancing up, I watched the clouds swirl around the sky above me, the sun shining down through them, lighting up my whole world.
In hell, it was too smoky. In heaven, it was too bright. But on earth, everything was just prefect.
"Your shoes." Raphael's deep voice broke through to me. He was holding a pair of slip on shoes out to me. Despite liking the feeling of the cool, alive grass beneath me, I accepted his gift, and slid them onto my feet.
"What's our plan?" I asked him, watching as he swung a backpack over his shoulder. Together we moved forward.
"There will be a friend waiting a short distance ahead. They will be able to drive us into the city."
"Then are we going to search for the shadow?"
"I already have been informed of the about the area in which he is in. Currently, I plan to find a place to stay within that area. And then we shall make a plan to catch him."
Together the two of us walked through the grass. I looked around, noticing that we were walking down a slight hill. Ahead, a little while way were what looked like a forest, with behind us gorgeous blue mountains. Despite watching the colour around me, my attention kept on being snapped back in, every time our arms accidently touched as we walked. I was grateful that I was still wearing my gloves, so I wasn't hurting him. But despite that barrier, every time we touched, I felt tingles up my arm. They were incredibly hard to ignore. And even harder not to become addicted to.
The trees took forever to reach. Despite the not particularly hard terrane, the sudden heat and constant pressures from something Raphael described as Gravity, started to pull at my energy. When we reached the shadows of the trees, I was carrying two layers of clothes, and was on the verge up stripping down to just my underwear. I was suspicious of Raphael, who seemed more than happy to continue forward, despite still wearing all his layers, and the backpack.
Despite that, we only had to move a few meters into the forest before Raphael found his friend. A young lady, with dark long hair, and a depressingly neat fringe, sat on the bonnet of her rusty old car, reading a book. Hearing us approach, she looked up. The smile that reached her eyes was honest, and she bounced on over to us.
"Raphael? I'm afraid your wings give away your true identity there! My name Is Eliza! Can I take your bags?" I had reached a point where I found his wings, all Angel wing's, to be the normal. I had forgotten how unusual they were; especially to humans. As he walked over to her boot, and placed his bag inside, I voiced a question.
"How are we going to hide your wings?"
"Same way as we hide from humans when he need to. As Angels, we have the ability to block ourselves to those of this world. I will just have to block out the wings, so that others can't see them."
"But, they will still be there?" I asked, as I watched him pull his wings back, and in towards himself.
"Yes. Try not to forget about them too much, okay? Despite being invisible, to your eye-" I watched as they slowly faded, into the space around them "- they are still there." Raphael smiled, watching my reaching as closely as I was watching him.
I was ordered into the front seat, with Eliza driving, and Raphael in the back. She was a pleasant companion. Polite, and easy to talk to. Raphael was the one conversing with her mostly, for I had nothing in similarity and no idea what I really should say. Eventually, we drove in a comfortable silence.
We drove through the forest for a very long time. Then suddenly, we were no longer within the forest. We were driving into a city. I could see it running along the entire width of the forest, spreading out before me. It held a magnificence that wasn't like the nature, but incredible nonetheless.
"I use to live in one of these?"
"Yes. You did." Eliza looked surprised when I said that, clearing noticing that I was human, but realised that what I was suggesting didn't make sense. However, she shrugged it off.
"Why did we have to travel so far? If this was always our destination, couldn't have we just come here initially. Not that I don't appreciate the lift, Eliza."
"We had to arrive so far away from the city, because of the power used to bring you to this realm. The Herman's Shadow would have sensed us immediately if we had arrived any closer."
"It would have been too risky." Added Eliza. Then she called over her should to Raphael. "It is getting late. How about you stay at my place tonight, and find a place tomorrow?"
"That sounds perfect!"
