"Weak And Powerless" By A Perfect Circle
Ten+
Wyatt and I curled up on the couch for a while, just talking. It was stupid stuff mostly but it's relaxing in a way I haven’t experienced in a long time. I don’t know exactly when I drifted off to sleep but I do vaguely remember being carried somewhere.
Wyatt takes me up to my room and places me on my bed gently. To his credit he doesn’t leave me alone. Instead he curls up with me, falling asleep with his head in the crook of my neck and his arms wrapped around me. I feel his presence and don’t hesitate to curl into him even more, savoring the comfort.
Eventually it's time to leave. He has to go back to the bookshop so he eventually removes his arms and slips out from under me. I feel his absence and clutch my blanket tighter around me from the loss of his warmth but I don’t wake up. He kisses my forehead lightly and before I know it he’s gone, though he doesn’t leave me unprotected.
A circle of salt is around the bed. Wyatt explained last night that he had done this to keep anything ill intent at bay. He said that salt is often used as a purifying agent and because it’s a demon we’re dealing with anything pure would be a deterrent. I remember reading something along the same lines in that paranormal book at the bookshop as well. So I continue on sleeping unaware of how pissed this seems to make the things trying to get to me.
It's reaching nearly half past ten when it seems to lose its patience. I’m still asleep due to the exhaustion of the past few days but things are already beginning to happen. The breeze is barely noticeable at first and so are low whispers that don’t seem loud enough to wake me. The breeze turns into a more precise gust and soon the circle is displaced.
A few grains remain but not enough to keep me safe and with that they decide to strike. A clawed being, unseen by the naked eye, comes forward and lifts the blanket from the lower half of my body. I whine at the cold but don’t open my eyes. What happens next is quick and definitely wakes my ass up.
The claws dig into the flesh of my ankle and begin pulling me off the bed. My eyes snap open at the movement and out of instinct I turn around and grab the headboard above me. Gripping it as hard as I can I let out a scream and the thing grabbing me quickly splits into five things grabbing me. Scratching, pulling and drawing blood they try to get me off the bed but I refuse to let go of the headboard.
“Help!” I scream but I know it’s useless.
Nothing can help me this time.
I watch in horror as blood springs up on my hands from what looks to be claw marks but with no visible thing causing them. When one goes particularly deeply I cry out and release the headboard. My body goes flying across the room and slams into a wall. My head bounces off the wall but it doesn’t knock me out, just gives me a splitting headache.
Whispers and laughs come from every direction in the room making me look around but finding no source. Scrambling to my feet I try to get out of the room but I’m pushed down to the ground again. Blood springs up in the form of three lines across my upper chest making me hold a hand there hoping to stop the bleeding. I don’t know what this is but it’s a hell of a lot more aggressive than anything I’ve ever seen before.
More blood drips from my face as my skin is ripped open more from a thing I can’t see. I try to put my arms up to block it but it only slashes through them without mercy as well. Soon I’m feeling light headed from all the blood loss and collapse to the wood floor below. Cracking my eyes open I see a shadow of a being flash into sight. Dark wet looking skin, red bulging eyes and thick visible veins marking the skin like a map. The sight of it is just a flicker though and soon I can’t see it again.
