"Haunted" By Evanescence
Sixteen+
The warm water cascades down my back as I lean with one arm on the shower’s wall. I can’t explain how wonderful it is to just be clean. Turning off the water I reach above to pull the dark green towel hanging over the curtain rod. Running it over my hair a few times and drying myself, I wrap it around my body before exiting the shower itself.
A shiver travels down my spine from the coldness of the tiles under my feet and I wrap my arms around myself. Moving to stand before the foggy mirror I wipe it with one of my hands so I can see myself. I look a lot better than last time I saw myself, definitely a bit brighter.
Grabbing the spare yellow toothbrush from the holder I squirt some toothpaste onto the brushes and raise it to my mouth. Watching my reflection brush her teeth as I do mine I enjoy the minty tingle on my tongue, feeling for the first time in days, more human. I lower my head and spit some of the toothpaste and when I raise my head again I notice something off with my reflection.
Turning my head to the side it follows my action but instead of the frown I’m wearing it’s grinning sinisterly at me. Dropping the toothbrush into the sink I grip the edge of the sink and get closer to mirror, trying to figure out how the hell this is happening. The reflection does the movement but it’s a bout a second too slow as it too leans forward.
“What are you?” I ask it.
“I am you.” It answers in my voice.
I shake my head. “No you’re not.”
The reflection’s eyes go pure black and dark veins begin marking its skin. I take an involuntary step back from the mirror in horror. I let out a quick scream when its hand shoots out from the mirror to grab me by my hair and drag me back towards the mirror.
“Maggie?” Wyatt’s voice yells through the door as he pounds on it. “Maggie what’s going on?”
“Wyatt!”
“You belong to me!” The reflection snarls at me in a distorted voice.
“Maggie!” Wyatt yells he begins pounding on the door so hard I can see cracks starting to form in the wood.
The reflection begins trying to pull me inside the mirror and I do everything to keep my body outside of it. Grabbing onto the sink, the walls, the towel racks anything I can. It made harder to see anything though when blood starts running down my face from its claws cutting open my scalp. Squeezing shut my eyes I let out the loudest scream I can.
The hand immediately les go and the glass shatters making its jagged pieces rain down. As I land on the ground in a pile I realize the towel fell off during the struggle and curl myself into a ball. The glass cuts open my skin as it falls making more blood spring up.
Wyatt stops pounding on the door and instead turns the knob before slowly swinging open the door. When he sees me naked, bleeding and cut up he goes to his knees immediately to scoop me off the ground. He doesn’t seem to mind I’m naked and personally I couldn’t give a shit either way right now.
After depositing me in the chair in his room he grabs the comforter off his bed and wraps it around me. I don’t stop crying long enough to thank him but I think he gets the idea when he literally has to pry my hands off his shirt. Leaving me for a minute I hear him tripping over the glass in the bathroom before reentering the room with a first aid kit in his hands.
