Phantom Body

From my window,

I watched you fall like snow.

As I ran outside to touch you,

You became a blizzard

That blew me away from my home.

I struggled around with frozen feet,

A frozen voice and frozen deeds,

Until you showed me

The speck of a fire.

But as I sprinted closer for warmth,

I discovered it was a house burning down.

A house I called my home.

Why? I cried, thrashing the sinking snow.

Why did you let me run after your beauty,

When you were nothing but a phantom body?

Of course, you didn't reply.

All you did was leave as suddenly as you arrived,

Leaving me in a white expanse with a dam in my heart,

Because I chased your illusion like a lunatic.

But I did not release the dam.

I will not either.

Your non-existence is not worth the weight of my existence.

You do not deserve to satisfy your drought

From the water of my heart.
