- The Past -
Marinette's POVThe next morning, I hopped out of bed. I hadn't been able to sleep at all, and the thought of losing my family made me absolutely sick.
"Maybe you should stay home, Marinette. With passing out last night and everything, I'm sure your parents would understand."
I shook my head.
"No Tikki, I can't. There's someone at school I need to talk to, and I need you to trust me. I'll be fine." I smiled reassuringly as I put on my signature outfit of the time.
I never thought I would miss a pregnancy so much, but the lack of stomach only hurt me even more.
Take care of them, mini-me.
I froze as I walked out the door, shocked to see my parents so young. This entire routine was familiar, muscle memory perhaps, even though I hadn't gone through it for years.
"Sweetie, are you sure you don't want to stay home? After last night-"
"I'm fine Maman, Papa, I promise!" I gave each of them a kiss on the cheek like I had for years before turning around.
I made it out of the bakery with a deep breath in as Tikki guided me towards the school, constantly reminding me of my schedule and supplies.
I trembled as I walked into my first hour, the memories striking me like lightning as I entered the classroom. Surprisingly enough, I was one of the first ones there. Only beat by Alya, Nino, and... Adrien.
"H-hi!" I stuttered, my gaze not leaving my future husband.
"Hey Mari!" The rush and nervousness of my teenage years came flooding back as I gave a dopey grin in reply.
Snap out of it Agreste! You're married to him! You have a kid with him!
"Where's my best friend and what have you done with her?" Another voice asked.
"Um," how did Alya find out about this? How should I answer?! "No, just me!" I awkwardly covered.
"Hm, yeah right. You've never been this early, girl! What's gotten into you?" I took a deep breath of relief as I realized what the future godmother of my child was talking about and instantly calmed down.
"Couldn't sleep last night. I stayed up working on a few designs after getting home."
Adrien gave me a suspicious stare.
Of course that alley cat would. He brought Marinette Dupain-Cheng home last night after she passed out. And now she was at school talking about a lack of sleep?
He's oblivious and dense, yes, but my man was not stupid.
The room continued to fill up until the bell rang as Alya and Nino returned to their seats. Just as I was about to join them, someone grabbed my arm.
"Mari, are you sure you're okay? You seem... off."
"I'm fine Adrien," I replied, a soft smile on my face. Come on Agreste! It's now or never! "But, would you mind meeting me at the park after school? I think... I think we need to talk."
"Okay," he replied, obviously confused, "I'll see you then." And with that we took our seats.
