Episode 1: Rhythm of the Night (Gap 3)

Gap 3

The scene begins with splitshot of André and Jin packing up their things from the last period before lunch break.

André constantly avoids Jin's gaze and attempts at conversation.

Jin continues to make an advance on the seemingly disoriented André.

[Playing Opening to KAPAG TUMIBOK ANG PUSO by Donna Cruz then continues to instrumental throughout the André and Jin's voiceover cuts]

André [Voiceover]:
Ang yabang n'ya. He's good, good at all our subjects so far, and he doesn't want to go unnoticed. Out of all people, ako pa talaga ang kinukulit niya.

Jin [Voiceover]:
Tama kaya si Greg? Bading kaya talaga s'ya.

André [Voiceover]:
'Yung confidence niya is so offputting. Hindi ako nakapag-focus sa Math.

Jin [Voiceover]:
Sobrang tahimik. Mukhang iniiwasan ako. Mukha kaya akong jologs sa harap niya? Masyado ba ako nahahalata sa mga pinaggagagawa ko?

André [Voiceover]:
So much for the first day. Parang gusto ko na umuwi. Kaso 'tong homework sa English, wrong timing. Pa-homework kaagad, ka-first day na first day.

Jin [Voiceover]:
Siguro reserved lang talaga s'ya. Okay, so paano hindi magmukhang tanga? Pa'no, pa'no, pa'no, pa'no...

André [Voiceover]:
I have no choice. I have to talk to him sooner rather than later...

André+Jin:
Lunch? [Looks at each other at the same time]

Both turned away from each other's gaze and continued to busy themselves. Jin stopped moving after a short while.

Jin:
Nakain ka ba ng menudo?

André [Voiceover]:
Funny. Favorite ni mom 'yung Menudo. Lalo na 'yung Xanadu. I'll download it later at home.

Jin:
Huy!

André:
Ah... Ano 'yon?

Jin:
Menudo? Nakain ka ba ng menudo? Kanina kasi 'yun 'yung niluluto sa canteen. Pero kung ayaw mo naman, may karinderya sa labas. Masarap dun.

Jin realizes his words and who he is talking to.

Jin:
Sorry. Baka hindi ka sanay kumain sa ganun.

André:
Karinderya? You mean, 'yung food stalls and eatery sa labas?

Jin:
[Laughs at André's kakonyohan] Oo, 'yun nga. Variety dun. Mas marami choices. Mukhang pihikan ka kasi.

André:
Ako? Pihikan? No way.

Jin:
Eh 'di okay lang sa'yo mag menudo?

André [Voiceover]:
Shit... If there are raisins there...
[Out loud to Jin] Oo, ayos na ako dun.

Jin:
[Nods with suspicion]

Scene cuts to the canteen, a splash of white and red. Jin and André sit in front of one another. The table is unusually low, almost for a grade schooler. Two trays lay atop, with plastic plates containing rice and menudo. A bottled water is cradled on André's lap, while Jin sips from a stainless steel cup.
