When Dong hua transferred his cultivation to Lian song, he asked him for a favour that in case he'll die in the battle, Lian Song shall protect and take care of fengjiu. It was a pact between them and would only be nullified if Dong hua lives. That is why when Dong hua was reincarnated as lord wen chang, lian song knew it was him and purposely told him to call him grandfather so he could tease him when he (dong hua) gets his memories back. It was also a signal for lian song to give back cheng yu's memory.

He knelt in front of her. "Cheng yu, can't you just forget everything again? I still want to be with you. I still want to see you."

"What do you mean?" She stood up.

"You were there... in times where I needed help. You were there when I was broken. You were there when I feel like the world was falling apart. You were my greatest love." He said.

"It was my fault. From the beginning, I shouldn't have forced myself to be with you. Now you have to suffer..." – lian song

"Why are you saying these things?" she asked. "I don't get it. What are you talking about?"

"Remember what you told me before? You told me to stop minding your business. You told me that you wish to never see me again."

He cast a spell on her to make her unable to move.

"It was me, the one who altered your memories..." - lian song

Back when he used the elixir, he knew that if she ever regains her memories, it will cause him pain and it will lead him to death.

Since the elixir was made by Supreme Venerable God, one had to use something or someone as collateral. When he used it to Cheng yu, he offered his life to be the sacrifice. He cannot bear to see her crying, plus she wanted her to continue her life.

He knew that he should never pursue her again since she might regain her memories but he was selfish and he loves her too much.

So he did everything he can to make her fall in love with him again, but it didn't do him good. She gradually regained her memories through dreams, without realizing that everything she saw was real.

She tried to break the spell that he cast.

"Don't move. I'm giving back all your memories." He stopped her.

He took the antidote from his heart and made her drink it.

"I'm letting you go." He said "This is the only way I know that would make me disappear from your sight. Remember that in this lifetime, you matter more than anything to me." He kissed her forehead.
