September 19thBen's POV:
You may be wondering why it said I was at Erica's dorm. It's quite simple really.
We were texting in the groupchat a few days before, when Erica asked me if I liked Zoe. (Fun and games chapter is the argument referenced here.)
I said 'Ofc I do. She was the first friend I made here. And one of my best friends. Wdym?'
She said something like 'I meant like as more than a friend.'
And I said something like 'I dunno I mean, it's complicated.'
And Zoe came in to the convo by saying 'I understand that. I like 2 people at once rn too. It is complicated. If you need I'm always here to talk.'
Erica got mad and left. But not before blocking Zoe and ignoring me.
For the past 3 days she's completely ignored us. This happened Tuesday. And she still won't talk to me or Zoe.
So I decided to confront her about it. I can't make it better if I don't know what's wrong.
Now before you start to think I'm being super brave, I'm literally terrified. But she means a lot to me. So I'm gonna try.
I took a deep breath and knocked on the door.
"Who is it?" She growled.
I gulped. "Ben."
Silence.
"What do you want?"
"To find out what's wrong. So I can help. And be there for you."
"Go away."
"Erica. You've ignored me for 3 days. I'm not leaving until we solve this."
"Ben." She warned.
"I'm sorry but I will not leave until we talk. I'll stand out here if I have to. But I will talk to you."
"Ben." She continued.
"Erica you can beat me up if you want. Heck you can torture me. I mean I'd prefer if you didn't kill me but I'll understand. But I refuse to leave until you talk to me."
"Ben."
"Erica."
"BEN."
"Erica."
"BEN!"
"Erica." I contuinued. "I'm not scared of the consequences. I will not leave until I know you're okay and we're okay."
"Ben."
"What?"
"I'm fine."
"I know enough about girls to know they're never fine when they say they are."
"Ben."
"Erica let me in or don't. But I will not leave."
"Ben you're making me angry."
"And you think you aren't?"
"What did you just-"
"You're making me angry. I'm here to help. And I won't leave until I do."
"I'm not talking to you if you're out there."
"Then let me in."
"I'm not letting you in."
"Then I'll let myself in." I mumbled. I turned and slammed my shoulder into the door. My shoulder throbbed from the force. The door fell of the hinges. She was sitting on her bed and I saw her jump a tiny bit as the door fell. I jumped in and caught the door. I took out the screwdriver I'd brought, expecting this to be a possibility. I screwed the door back on as she watched annoyedly.
"When and how did you turn off the traps?"
"I did it as we talked. And it's all science really. So I just disabled them."
"You know you dented my door."
"Oops."
"Did you seriously just knock my door off it's hinges?" She stood up and started to walk toward me slowly.
"I did, yes."
"Why on Earth would you do that?"
Step.
"I need to talk to you. And you said you weren't gonna if I was out there. And you wouldn't let me in. So I let myself in."
Step.
"I said I wasn't gonna talk."
Step.
"And I said you are."
"You are not in charge of me."
"Erica don't make this harder than it needs to be."
"It's not hard if it doesn't happen." She growled.
"Erica do you like me?"
"It's complicated."
"That's not what I asked."
"It's what I answered."
She was inches away from me. And then she walked right past me and headed for the door. I wasn't gonna let her leave before we talked. So I grabbed her had and spun her around to face me. Our faces were only a foot apart.
She looked angry and confused and excited? All at once.
She decided to go for anger first.
"Who do you think you are!?!"
"Ben Ripley. Pleased to make your accquaintance ma'am." I said with a little bow.
She rolled her eyes.
"We're going to talk this out whether you want to or not. We need to talk."
"I'm not going to do anything I don't want to! And you cannot force me to!" She yelled right into my face.
"Why won't you talk to me? And ghost me?"
"You clearly have a thing for Zoe." She said with a hmph.
"First of all, why would that matter? Second of all, I like her but I'm starting to realize it's just as a friend."
"If I liked you, do you think I'd go right out and say it? Well I don't! So what I do is keep my distance to try and avoid the chance of getting hurt or scare them and ma-!"
I wanted her to stop and put my hands on her face and pulled her even closer. We were centimeters apart and staring into each other's eyes. She backed up a little.
"Why... did you do that?"
"I don't know! I just... wanted you to stop!"
"You couldn't think of another way to stop me?"
"Not... at the time, no! I'm... sorry."
"You don't have to be sorry Ben."
I took a step forward and kissed her. My hands were on the sides of her face and hers around my neck in my hair. We pulled away for air but stayed close.
"Of course, I like you. You're a good guy. If you get hurt, I... don't know what I'd do."
"Well lucky for both of us we don't have to worry about that, do we?"
"Huh?"
"Well, I can take care of myself. And, on top of that, I have you to protect me." I whispered.
She leaned in again and kissed me again.
Okay, so the groupchat convo that started all this will be the update on Wednesday.
