Onaya woke up with a start, glancing at her surroundings. Where was she? What happened? Was this the afterlife? It wickedly looked and felt like the normal world. Where was the sweet darkness? Her eyes landed on a figure crouching above her and her eyes narrowed.

It was them. They had come for her.

That was enough to put her body in full alert. She quickly studied her surroundings, noticed a wooden fire poker close, picked it up and was promptly on top of the stranger. Pointed end on his neck and daring him to move.  It was a 'him', obvious from the solid chest her free hand was planted on. What was it with this guy's face, he was...how to put it?

 Never mind, danger, focus. Now!

No time to appreciate anybody's facial features right now.

With that, she injected lethality and lividness in her stare as much as she could muster. Her father had once told her that her stare could melt bones. Making even the feet of the strongest of men tremble. She noticed the man was studying her with intense eyes then she felt him try to move. Was he stupid? she pushed the stake further into his skin making sure to pinpoint a vital lifeblood vessel.  The man's eyes widened and continued to silently study her. She knew those eyes. The eyes of a calculating warrior whose chance of survival was dangling by a thread. He opened his mouth.

Was he trying to call reinforcements? with a pike to his neck?  It was official...

 This guy was stupid.

He shouldn't even think about it. She pushed the stake deeper. It was his last chance. Make one more stupid move and it was over for him. The skin where the sharp end was pushing against him was pulled taut. A little more pressure and he would be punctured like wet old wineskin stretched tight on a jar and poked by a stick. There would be no way for him to survive. The young man seemed to realize this and his face had a tinge of alarm.  Then it was as if he remembered something, his face brightened.

A beat passed and then an utterly impossible thing happened. The young man's eyes glowed a slight golden colour, focused deep into her eyes and all of a sudden as if pulled into a void, she could see a story in them.

Picking a girl in a river, carrying her to safety, tending to her wounds, cleaning her, watching over her, preparing a meal for her. That girl...it was her.

She could feel the energy he was projecting. It was calm and serene very unlikely for a killer. What was this? Whatever it was it made her feel safe. Had she heard of something like this before? Oh yes. In the stories. The stories of certain lands, a certain kingdom...Ikonga. Was this it? How? She began relaxing her hold on the man.

His eyes were still locked on hers and as though in a transfix she couldn't turn away. The man smiled. This had her wondering. Why did he decide to help her? She was only a stranger, an alien. She never wanted this. Sweet darkness was what she wanted and she feared she would never get it. But then, did she still want it?

Out of the blues, something heavy knocked her. Black splotches decorated her vision and she saw the smile fall off the man's face. Was this a trick?!  It was, wasn't it? Oh, they messed with the wrong person. No one fooled her like that. She made it her mission there and then to finish them, starting with the culprit who was dumb enough to attack her. For the first time, she realized she didn't want the darkness to take over just yet.

She had unfinished business.

This time when she regained her consciousness, she didn't open her eyes. She left them closed and made her breathing slow and even. Anyone would think she was still unconscious or in heavy slumber. She thought of a plan and an idea popped in her mind. It was too easy.. she planned to wait until one of them came close enough, attack him and use him as leverage against the other one.  She almost smiled had it not been for the fact that it would ruin her cover then she would have done it. Who knew if they were watching her.

She waited out some more and just when she was beginning to think they had left. She heard movements a few feet from her. Whoever it was, was coming closer. Yes, at last. She could feel the presence coming closer however there was something peculiar with how they moved. She waited until they were less than an arm's length away. She was applying the cobra technique. Draw your unsuspecting enemy as close as you may and then attack!

The figure moved closer.

Sweet victory!

It loomed over her face and then licked her nose. What?!  She could feel the wet slimy substance on her face. Her eyes flew open and met face to face with a monkey staring at her with two beady eyes. She couldn't help it. She screamed. She made an effort to move but her movements were restricted. There something tying her hands.

No.

Not again.

Ropes!

She hated them with a raging passion. She vehemently shifted her body to shake the little beast off and sure enough, it scurried away looking back at her with sad eyes.

Somewhere above her, a laugh erupted. It was like a child laughing uncontrollably. Wait...it was a child laughing uncontrollably. She searched the trees and caught sight of a boy sitting on a tree branch laughing his head off. Pure amusement glinting in his eyes. He seemed so happy, yet so naughty, yet so innocent. She wouldn't dare harm him. He was probably lost in the forest, this poor child.

He also strongly resembled the young man who helped her. The boy was climbing down now making his way toward her still laughing, he slightly stumbled as he tried catching a breath in between his peals of laughter. Maybe she could convince him to try and help her...

"Kaka! She's awake again."

'What?!'

LOOOLLL!!! QUICK STORY....

On one school trip to a game reserve, I and my friends left our lunches at one of the picnic tables in the lunch area. It was outdoor and I and a couple of friends went to take some scenery photos. We heard squeals and laughs and decided to turn and see what was happening. A  group of monkeys were running off with all our food! LMAOOO we couldn't help it and burst into laughter too. They were running and eating the food in our faces almost as if they were showing it off! and asking "What are you gonna do about it?"

Has any animal other than your pet ever stolen your meal before? you have to tell us! :)))))))))))

By the way, I think this was Kulo's temporary sidekick  ;) ...
