Chapter 31

Setting Sun

(Y/n) sits on the cliff's edge, her eyes glued onto Eren's figure down below. Levi stands to her right while Historia sits with her on the left. Eren had transformed various times to activate the hardening skill, but every transformation left him weaker. It was as if he couldn't fully control his powers anymore. (Y/n) looks down at the marking.

"What would I do if my powers were gone?" (Y/n) asks herself and Historia glances at her with an empty expression.

"You'll probably end up dead," Historia replies to her rhetorical question. (Y/n) gives her a smile.

"Most likely," (Y/n) jokes, but her smiles turns into a frown when Historia frowns at her disapprovingly. Her blonde friend stands from where she was sitting, her hands balled into tight fists.

"How can you smile and joke around when Ymir is gone?" Historia spats out as she trembles with anger, "You seem to show no grief. In fact, you're flirting with everyone in the damn cabin, probably looking for the next person to fuck and throw away. You disgust me."

Historia stomps away leaving a speechless (Y/n). Levi had heard the whole ordeal so he sits down on the cliff's edge, his legs dangling. He sees tears spill out from her eyes and before she could wipe them away, he harshly elbows her in the rib. She bends over in pain, gasping out, "Why would you do that!"

"So when the brats ask you why you were crying, you won't have to lie," Levi states as he stares off at Hanji freaking out over Eren's transformation. His eyes stay glued onto the people below them as (Y/n) wipes away at her tears.

"I know it's stupid to cry, but it hurts so much," she sighs and she brings down her hands onto her lap. She turns her head to glance at him, "When are we going to fulfil our promise? I need alcohol."

"You can't solve your problems with alcohol" he lectures her and she rolls her eyes at him with an exaggerated sigh.

"Not with that attitude" she exclaims and looks down at Eren's titan form when Mikasa screams for him. Hanji pulls Eren's exposed body up to pull him away from the muscles. Eren's body snaps back, revealing his tone abs and his missing face.

"Wow! Moblit, please draw it!" Hanji says full of excitement. Mikasa cuts away at all the muscles, freaking out that Eren had the front part of his face missing. Hanji apologizes to Mikasa, realizing that she had gone too far with her experiments, "Well, looks like we're done for now."

"Looks like the brat won't be much help in closing the hole" Levi states while he gets up from the ground. He reaches his hand down for (Y/n) and she accepts it. He helps her stand up.

"Alright, everyone check the surrounding area to make sure there are no witnesses" Keiji orders and Levi leads (Y/n) back to Bolt. She places her hand on his spotted brown head. She pets him with love.

"How are you not dead yet?" (Y/n) asks as she mounts him. Levi fixes his ODM gear before jumping up onto the saddle. She holds back her laugh. They ride silently through the woods until Levi speaks up from beside her.

"Who was the person you met back at the alley?" he asks with his eyes glaring down at her figure. She raises an eyebrow at him and his glare intensifies, "You think I wouldn't notice you lying to me?"

"Damn it," (Y/n) curses and she sighs, "I met Kenny The Ripper. He was watching us from the alley."

Levi's eyes open wide at the name, his heart hammering against his chest. It had been so long since he had heard the name. His face pales at the thought of meeting him again. (Y/n) notices the way his expression fell into one of panic. An expression she never thought she would see on his face, "Levi?"
