Chapter 4 - Three Rogue Wolves

Lucy's POV

It's been a week since Natsu found me injured by some other Rogues. I was waiting for him to come this morning in my hidden shelter. Every morning he would come to check on my injuries before hunting some breakfast. Natsu would tell me interesting stories about his pack. Like the time when he pranked this wolf named Gray by putting Poison Ivy on his bed.

While waiting, I thought back to what happened before I met him. I was wondering the Outlands searching for food when I spotted a deer alone gazing a patch of grass not too far from me. 'Score!' I thought since I was starving and one deer could last me for three days. It's hard to find food in the Outlands because all the packs have the best hunting grounds. I crouched down and stalked towards my prey.

As I got close and ready to pounce, a black male Rogue wolf with a scar over his right eye jumped out of the bushes ahead of me and scared away my prey. 'Damn it!' I thought as I growled towards the male Rogue. Before I could run away to avoid a fight, I noticed I was surrounded by him and two other wolves. The black wolf who scared my prey away stood in front of me, a dark brown male wolf with a scar over his left eye stood to my left and a dark grey male wolf with a scar over his left eye stood to my right. "Looks like we finally found a female, boys" the black wolf said and then all three of them smirked. I growled at all three of them threatening them to stay away as I slowly walked backwards.

"Come on Blondie, mate with us so we can form our own pack" the dark grey one said while licking his lips. Females are rare in the Outlands especially ones without scars over their eyes so it's no wonder why they want to mate with wolves like me. "I will never mate with any of you" I snarled. "Wrong choice Blondie" the dark brown wolf said before all three growled at me. "Looks like we'll need to force you into submission" the black wolf said and then leapt at me. All three of them attacked at once which left me nearly no room to escape. They bit and scratched me everywhere while I tried to defend myself. I managed to escape after biting hard on the dark grey's front leg. He backed away just enough for me to slip through and make a run for it.

My injuries hurt like hell but I couldn't slow down or they would catch me. All three of them were right on my tail. Suddenly the adrenaline started kicking in and after a few quick manoeuvres through the trees, I managed to lose them. When I knew I was safe for the time being, the adrenaline left and my body collapsed from exhaustion. I laid in the same spot for hours in pain wondering if this was the end for me. That was until a certain pink wolf found me.

If Natsu never found me I probably would've died from blood loss. Now that I'm back to full health, I guess I have to leave. It will be sad to leave Natsu but at least we can meet here every full moon. Speaking of the wolf, I spotted Natsu walking towards me. "Hey Lucy!" he greeted happily, running up to me when he saw me. "Hey Natsu" I greeted back with a smile but it quickly turned into a frown. "What's with that frown?" he asked as he sat down next to me and tilted his head to the side. "I'm fully healed now so that means this will be the last day you'll see me before the next full moon" I replied. He looked shocked like he just remembered. "At least we'll get to see each other" I added with a small smile. "Wait, please stay for another week. A-Ah, just to make sure you're really fully healed" he said, flustered by the end for some reason.

I smiled brightly, I'm so glad that I don't have to leave yet. "Ok since I don't have to leave and I've been laying down all week, lets have a race" I suggested. "You're on!" he replied excitedly, accepting my challenge. "Ready set go!" I said quickly before running off into the Outlands. "Hey no fair!" he whined while running behind me. The reason why I had to race into the Outlands was because we both knew we couldn't run in or close to Natsu's pack territory or else his pack will find out about me. I'm glad Natsu trusts me as much as I trust him.

Soon Natsu caught up to me and we raced through the trees side by side. I spotted the weeping willow tree that I like to relax under on a nice sunny day. "See that weeping willow tree ahead of us?" I said, "yeah?" Natsu replied. "Whoever gets there first wins" I said and then sped up. He chuckled and kept running close to my tail. I was confident I was going to win as we were almost at the tree but then Natsu sped past me and got to the tree first. "I win" he said with a smirk while putting his right front paw on the tree's trunk.

I pouted and my ears flopped down for a moment. "You were holding back until the last minute, weren't you?" I asked with slight disappointment. "Only a bit" he replied with a not-so-innocent smile and I giggled. I walked up to the tree and laid down on my favourite spot. Natsu laid down next to me. The breeze and the warm sunrays felt good against my fur. "This is my favourite place to relax. I love laying here on a clear night and looking up at the constellations my Mama used to show me when I was a pup" I opened up as I looked up at the branches swaying in the wind. "Sounds like you loved your mother a lot" Natsu said. "Yeah, she was the most amazing person in my life and I miss her so much" I replied while resting my head on my paws.

Remembering her brought tears to my eyes. "Please don't cry Lucy. I don't like seeing you cry" he said, licking my fallen tears and nuzzled my head to comfort me. It brought a smile to my face to know that I'm not alone anymore and that Natsu is here for me. "One day I will open up about my past but I'm just not ready yet" I told him. "I'll wait until you're ready" he replied. "Thanks Natsu" I said and nuzzled his head with affection.

Suddenly a twig snapped nearby which made both of our heads shoot up in alert. We looked around for the intruder and the three wolves that attacked me a week ago stalked out of the bushes. Natsu and I jumped to our feet and glared at them. "Found you Blondie" the dark grey wolf said with a smirk as all three of them circled us and the tree. Natsu and I growled and stood in a fighting stance. "They were the wolves who attacked me" I told Natsu and then his growl deepened. He turned around so he was facing behind me. Now they won't be able to sneak an attack behind either of us.

"Give us the female wolf and we'll let you go Pinky" the black wolf said. We were outnumbered and I became scared that Natsu was going to get hurt because of me. "Natsu go, I can handle this. I don't want you to get hurt" I said. "You should listen to her" the black wolf warned. Natsu stomped his paw into the ground and snarled. "I'm never going to abandon Lucy so if you want her you will have to go through me" he growled. My heart fluttered at what he just said but now is not the time.

"Get them!" the black wolf growled and then all three attacked. Natsu went against the black and dark brown wolves while I was fighting against the dark grey wolf. The dark grey wolf leapt at me and aimed a bite towards my neck. I quickly sidestepped out of the way and whipped my body around, clawing his side. He yelped in pain before snarling at me. We circled each other once while growling and then I ran at him. I quickly bit down on his neck and he howled in pain. He whipped his head around and bit my front leg. I yelped in pain and let go of his neck before getting a bit of distance from him. 'I need to end this quick so I can help Natsu' I thought since he was fighting two of them.

The dark grey wolf lunged at me and then I pulled out my special move. I quickly turned my back on him and as he got close I 'Lucy Kicked' him in the snout with both of my back legs. He flew back and fell on his side. As he stood back up, he whined with his tail between his legs and ran to his friends. Natsu came over to me and stood in front of me protectively. "If any of you mess with Lucy ever again I will personally kill you" he growled and then let out a bark. The two who were fighting Natsu flinched and fled with their tails in between their legs while wolf I fought decided to run right behind them.

"You shouldn't have to deal with them anymore. Awesome kick back there too" Natsu said with a bright smile as he turned to face me. "Thanks Natsu. I'm surprised you could handle two of them all by yourself" I said and he shrugged. "They weren't hard. I used to spar with Gildarts ever since I was a pup whenever he returns home" he replied. "Who's Gildarts?" I asked since he has never mentioned him in his stories. "He's the strongest wolf in the pack. He's always travelling but he comes back every now and then" he replied. "Anyway, lets start heading back and hunt some food. All that fighting made me hungry" he added before jogging towards Fairy Tail's territory. "You're always hungry" I giggled before catching up to him.
