Chapter 15 - Best Friend

Lucy's POV

It's been a few days since the incident with Laxus and the Thunder Legion. I've been staying in the Healer den while I was recovering, Natsu's orders. "Hey Lucy, how are you feeling?" Natsu said with a smile as he came in for a visit. Since I've been here, Natsu has been visiting me at least two times a day, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Levy comes at least once a day as well. "I'm feeling a lot better. Wendy said I can leave tomorrow morning" I replied. "Maybe this afternoon depending on how you're feeling" Wendy added. "Great!" Natsu said happily and then laid down beside me.

"Lucy, I need to go out gathering for some more berries. Will you be ok here?" Wendy asked. "Yeah, I'll be ok. I've got Natsu to keep me company" I replied. "Aye! She has me!" Natsu added cheerfully. "Ok I'll be back in about an hour or so" she said and then left the den.

"So what am I missing out today?" I asked Natsu. Every time he visits, he tells me what everyone has been up to. "Well, Erza shouted at me and Gray for fighting this morning" he said while remembering today's events. "What were you two arguing about this time?" I asked, knowing it was probably something stupid again. He looked away which proved my point. "He started it! He called me pink-furred pup!" he replied but I knew he wasn't telling me the whole story.

"What did you do?" I said in a tone like a mother was trying to get the truth from their child. He immediately looked down and playing with the dirt with his paw, knowing I saw right through him. "I tripped him with a vine" he mumbled but I heard him. I sighed, "you two are so childish" I said. "He's more childish than me and stupid for that matter. That's for sure" a new voice joined our conversation.

"Oh hi Gray" I said as he walked into the den. "What'd you say?!" Natsu growled as he jumped to his paws. "You heard me Flame for Brains" Gray retorted. Both boys held a glare and growled at the other. "Anyway, why are you here Gray? Are you hurt?" I asked, breaking the boys up. "Nah, I'm here to see you" he replied and Natsu slightly growled.

"How are you feeling?" Gray asked. "I've been feeling a lot better thanks to Wendy. She said I could maybe leave this afternoon" I replied. "Cool. Sorry I haven't visited sooner but I've been busy trying to keep our idiotic Alpha in check" he said. "Who are you calling stupid?!" Natsu growled. "Who else" Gray growled back. "Don't let Erza see you fight" I commented. Both boys whipped their heads behind them towards the den entrance, "Erza?! Where?!" they panicked. When they saw that Erza wasn't there, they both sighed in relief.

"Speaking of Erza, where is she?" I asked and they turned towards me. "Last I saw her, she was talking to Jellal who was watching Laxus and the Thunder Legion with Loke" Natsu replied. "Yeah, we don't need another rebellion especially before the Summer Solstice next week" Gray added. "The Summer Solstice is next week?" I questioned. I didn't know the Summer Solstice was coming up.

Gray slapped the back of Natsu's head with his tail. "You forgot to tell her?" he said and Natsu growled at him. "Tell me what?" I asked, looking between the two of them. "The pack had a meeting yesterday and Natsu decided you'll be coming with him along with me, Erza and Wendy" Gray answered. "You sure you want someone like me to come?" I asked. I didn't understand why they would want me to come along to something this important. "What are you talking about Lucy? I'm not going to go without my best friend by my side" Natsu said with a bright toothy smile. I blushed at his words. I considered him my best friend too but the way he said it made me feel special.

"Hey, I thought I was your best friend?" Gray argued to Natsu. "I don't know what you're talking about" Natsu denied playfully while looking away. It was funny to watch them like this. "If anyone is Lucy's best friend, it'd be me" someone joined in. Gray and Natsu stepped aside and turned around to reveal Loke at the den entrance.

"No she's my best friend!" Natsu argued. "You must be mistaken. She's my best friend" Loke argued. "Well, since I'm clearly not Natsu's best friend then I'm Lucy's best friend" Gray joined into the battle of being my best friend. "What?!" Natsu exclaimed and I felt like this was starting to get out of hand.

Natsu suddenly jumped on top of me and growled at the other two boys. "She's my best friend and that's final" he growled in his Alpha tone. Gray and Loke looked at each other for a moment and then paw-bumped each other which left me and Natsu confused. "We knew that" Loke said. "It was just fun to mess with you" Gray added and then they both chuckled. Natsu grumbled as he crawled off of me.

"Anyway Loke, why are you here? Shouldn't you be watching Laxus and the Thunder Legion?" I asked. "Can't I come check up on my princess" he replied. "Princess?" Natsu and Gray questioned. "That was the nickname he used to call me when I was a part of the Celestial Pack" I explained. "Oh" they replied. "Speaking of that, I better get back to work. See you later Lucy" Loke said and left. "Bye Loke" I replied.

Natsu and Gray kept me company until Wendy came back from her gathering. I'm interested in going to the Summer Solstice to find out what it's like but there will be one problem, most likely Sabertooth will be there. Just thinking about their name brings back bad memories.
