Chapter 11:The Final Hour

It was finally the day.45 minutes until midday, and Wortox was still asleep or rather struggling to be.He was being waken up by the pain in his paw, which eventually jolted him awake.He sat up in his hammock, not really observant.He tried getting out of the thing, but it didn't go in his favor and he fell out of it.The Imp slowly got up and stretched, than yawned.He didn't have a clock, so he couldn't check the time at all.He grabbed his bag and went outside of the tent and looked around.He saw Wendy standing by the front gate already.This confused the Imp because she wanted him to come wake her up right?Wortox decided to go find out.He slowly came up to her."Wendy.. what time is it?"The Imp asked after yawning loudly."I don't know how long you were sleeping.. but it's 43 minutes until noon.So I'm pretty sure we should probably get going!"Wendy said as she started to walk off, pulling Wortox along with her by his fur."Ow.. you don't have to pull so hard.. my fur is delicate you know.."Wortox blabbered.She let him go."It is not Wortox, you are just blabbering."Wendy said.The Imp chuckled."I know.. hyuyuyu."The two kept walking.With some time, they managed to finally reach Beverley's house."Here we are.. a house I never thought I'd enter."Wortox said sadly."Why do you say that Wortox?"Wendy asked as she looked around than back at her friend."It's because I'm an Imp you see.Not a mortal like you.. but she gave me a chance anyways.."Wortox said.His voice sounded sad.Wendy patted him on the back."Let's go see how she's holding up, and how much time we have left."Wendy continued.Wortox nodded."Okay.. sounds good."The Imp said as he lead Wendy to the back door."This is how we usually enter.."Wortox said as he attempted to open the door.The door slowly opened and the two went inside and smelled dust instantly.Wortox sneezed, and Wendy blessed him."Odd.. it doesn't sound like anyone is here right now.. Wortox.. are you sure they're home?"Wendy asked.The Imp froze for a second."T-they have to be.. let's check upstairs."He said as he navigated himself through the rooms and up the stairs.Wendy followed slowly after him.The two stood outside of Beverley's bedroom.Wortox opened the door after a few seconds of silence.Nobody was in the room."Where could they've gone..I can't be too late..right?"Wortox asked Wendy as the two walked around the room and inspected it."There's loads of time left..maybe they went for a walk?"Wendy asked and wondered."That would just seem out of place.. now I'm worried..."Wortox replied as he looked out the window.Suddenly, there was a loud clunk.The two jumped, but didn't know what the noise was."You're late."Another voice said, making the two jump again.Wortox looked toward the door and saw Judy, standing there looking at a watch on her arm."Oh it's you.. where is Nick and Beverley?"Wortox asked quickly."They went off to the hospital since you were taking so long."Judy said after a quick sigh."How do we get there?There isn't much time left!"Wendy said."If you leave through the front door, just make a right and follow the main road, you can't miss it.You should hurry though, on foot it takes about 20 minutes to get there."Judy continued as she left the doorframe and went downstairs.Wendy and Wortox followed after her.Wortox was about to open the door when he heard noise coming from outside."It's raining Wendy..."Wortox said."Crud.. we can still make it,let's go!"The girl said as she rushed her friend out into the rain and down the road.Judy looked out the door and saw the two running.She closed it a minute later."You'd better make it Wortox... she's counting on you..."Judy said as she slowly closed the door.Wortox and Wendy hadn't made it that far since then.The two could see the city in the far off distance.It wasn't too far though.It was possible."How much time... do you think we have left?"Wortox asked as the two ran.The girl took a deep breath."I don't know.. but that's not important!We just need to focus on getting there-"Wendy almost said if she was able to finish her sentence.The girl fell over and took a very bad tumble.Wortox rushed over to her and saw a few cuts and bruises."W-wendy!Are you okay?That didn't look too good.."Wortox said.His voice was definitely breaking now."I'm alright.. I should've been more observant.. "She replied as she sat up slowly." Do you need help..?"Wortox asked."Pull yourself together Wortox!Don't worry about me.. go save your friend.Go save that soul.. "Wendy replied as she pulled out an umbrella.Wortox almost had tears form in his eyes.He ran off again, not looking back.After a very long run, the Imp reached the hospital.He scrambles inside after almost dropping the bag multiple times.Inside, he immediately saw Nick sitting on a chair.The boy gasped and seemed happy that the imp was there." You made it!Are you alright?"Nick asked.Wortox nodded.He was much out of breath at that point."W-where's Beverley.. and what time is it?"Wortox asked."It's 10 minutes until noon."Nick replied.Wortox almost lost it than."Can you take me to Beverley.. please?"Wortox asked."I can try.. I don't know if the reception lady will let us though.."Nick said as he led Wortox up to the desk."Can we see Beverley please?We wanna talk to her."Nick asked politely.The lady examined Wortox really quickly."I mean no harm ma'am.. I only intend to see my friend.."Wortox said quickly as he looked around for a clock.The lady took a look at the Imp again."Alright.. you don't seem too sketchy.. or seem like you're lying.She's up in room 310.Be sure to take the stairs."She replied.Nick and Wortox nodded and went though the door next to the desk.The two stopped halfway though the hallway."Alright.. you know this place right.. can you lead the way?"Wortox asked and waited for the response patiently."Huh?I don't know this place at all!They just kinda took her when I asked for help.."Nick replied."What?!You don't-"Wortox yelled but stopped himself.This wasn't a good time for this.Nick seemed a little frightened."I'm sorry...let's just look around for the stairs."The Imp said.The two start to walk around, finding the stairs quite easily.It didn't take long to find the room either, but it was a little tricky.Wortox opened the door for himself and Nick and found another clock inside the room.5 minutes.The Imp walked around the bed and got on Beverley's right side.Wortox opened his bag and took the amulet out.He took both sides of the necklace and put it around Beverley's neck.It was cold.Wortox was about to take a seat with Nick but something stopped him.It was Beverley herself.She woke up."Wortox... come here.."She said.The Imp slowly came back to her."Yes.. Bev?" Wortox asked."Come on buddy.. sit up here.."Bev said.Nick looked at the clock."Just 3 minutes Wortox.."He said as the Imp got onto the bed and sat down."I'm so happy.. you made it.. did you save me yet..?"Bev asked."Yeah.. I'm sure I did.."Wortox replied.Beverley sat up a bit and put her hand out.She wanted to touch the imp's fur.Wortox inched a bit closer and let her.She smiled.Wortox laughed a bit.Nick was happy.1 minute left."Wortox... can you do me a favor..?"Beverley asked."Yeah.. what do you need?"The imp asked."Let me.. hold your paw... one last time.."Beverley said.Wortox flinched but kept himself together.He let her take his paw into her own hand.That was when Wendy and Judy suddenly burst into the room.Wendy saw what the imp was doing."Wortox!!You better not have-"The Imp stopped her."N-no, she's okay!I'm s-sure of it!"Wortox said as he let her hands go.The imp now had tears in his eyes.Suddenly, Wortox felt the presence of a soul.It was Beverley's.It came out, but disappeared suddenly.It was very unnatural to the Imp."B... Beverley?Are you okay..?"He asked.The girl didn't reply.. but suddenly coughed.She opened her eyes afterwards.The room was struck with silence.Beverley looked around the room and felt her head."Woah.. I've got a major headache..."She said."You're okay!!"Everyone said except Wendy.The group gathered around Beverley, giving her much attention.The amulet seemed to have cracked as well.Everyone backed off a bit."Is it okay if I see that for a second Bev?"Wortox asked."Yeah, sure!"Beverley said as she took it off and handed it to the Imp.He examined it."It's broken.. nothing we can't fix at home."Wortox stated."That's good.We should probably head back now though.. we don't want them to know that you left and you were supposed to be resting!"Wendy said as she waved to Beverley and left the room.Wortox got down from the bed and went toward the door.A voice stopped the Imp.It was Nick's.Wortox turned around and was immediately hugged by the boy."Thank you...for saving her.."Nick said as he let go and adjusted his glasses."You're very welcome... I've learned my lesson.. I'll make sure this doesn't happen again."Wortox said."Hey bud?"Bev called to the imp.He looked at her."Yeah..?"He said.She smiles."When's your birthday?"She asked.Wortox seemed rather confused about why she asked him this."It's M-march 28th.."He replied."Alright.I'll see you soon!"Beverley replied as she suddenly fell back asleep.Wortox nodded and left the room, catching up with wendy.The two went off into the rain  with each other, keeping safe under the umbrella.
